I have this problem, a neurological defect if you will, that sometimes interferes with my ability to see things. It generally manifests when I'm trying to scan or sort through a collection. I look at a rack of coats, for example, and all I see are coats. My own coat, if it's there, is invisible to me until I look at the coats sequentially. ( Read more... )

I have the same problem in a way.

At work, we have locations, they are set up like this. 1-A-1-D-10 which means 1st warehouse, Isle A-1, Row D and the 1st rack, to can go up to 6 racks high. Depending on the warehouse, depends on how its set up so each warehouse has a slightly different setup.

Items have numbers like, D820 and D802. Now, generally this isnt a problem unless you are in a hurry and experinced because you will see the 820 and your brains says, "Ahh there is the 802" and you grab it. It takes a while to no longer make that simple mistake but it happens. There are also items like CDPRLLDH and CDPRLDEH. Again, in a hurry, my brain with switch the letters out and put in the correct ones so that I am thinking I am pulling the right thing. I have to concentrate on pulling some items because those simple mistakes as a puller requires you to waste time to fix it. That simple mistake as a dock leader means the customer got the wrong item and are now angry.

As for the driving, umm... I think its a problem with not being able to multitask. I can smoke, open a mnt dew and drive at the same time, while dodging potholes and stuff, my mom on the other hand cant change the stereo and drive at the same time. Some people are just built for some things and others arnt I think. Then again, driving my car requires tons of perception skills, Rocks, Pot holes, Dips and puddles can all affect my car more then your average car. I must be prepared otherwise my car is toast.

I know that I can't multitask... but it's a symptom of something else.
