Chicago was simply amazing. No wait, I don't think amazing is the word for it.
The trip up was pretty uneventful except for the unplanned detour we took in downtown indyapolis. Finding I-65 north was like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. A very big, twisty puzzle. LOL. But about after 10mins of our tour, we somehow found it and got going in the right direction. After that, we nixed the directions.
So we left here at 12pm and arrived there at 5pm...4 their time. We got off the highway right in Chinatown, which I loved. I love Chinese culture and it was too to see their verison of it. So after a brief stay there we headed to the Sears Tower.
We found a pretty good parking spot in downtown across from the tower. We parked, put everything in the trunk and were on our way. I don't it quit hit us that we were in Chicago until we stepped out of the garage and took a look up. Lord I felt tiny. So we crossed the street and got our first lesson about walking in Chicago..we almost got hit. Do NOT cross unless it's your turn. haha. So we go in and get our tickets to go to the top. We watch some nifty lil video about Chicago and such, and onward to the top.
**Let me tangent here and tell you of how much I dislike elevators. Something about them scares the shit out of me. They feel like an oversized coffin, especially b/c I can't see what's going on around me. With that said:
So we climb into this massive and rather safe looking elevator with a large group of people to go to the Skydeck. Then the thing starts moving and I swear to god, I have never been in a scarier elevator in all my life. Not to mention this damn thing is moving like 1600 ft very few seconds and my ears are poping like a bitch. Oh lord. I thought my heart was going to explode. And Jay wasn't helping any. So we get to the skydeck and I take a left out of the elevator and I was in awe. It was beatiful. One of those things you have to see to understand. You could see forever. You couldnt tell where lake mich. ended and the clouds began. It was simply amazing. And we got to watch the sunset which to was absolutely beatiful. It's something no one should die without seeing. I can't even put into words how beatiful it all looked. Watching the sunset there just made it seem like the trip was a success. I could have left after that and been happy.
So we wondered around the skydeck for a lil while longer and then we decided to get out and about around the city. We went to the Mag. Mile via cab. OMG. I thought we were going to die. Our cabbie was crazy and driving like that. Then he starts talking to himself. It was all Michelle and I could do to not die laughing. Well, he dropped us off on the top of the mile and we started walking. It was really cold but it was still awesome. We did some walking and window shopping b/c that's all we could afford. Well we started starving and debating on dinner. Well, the way I saw it, we were in Chicago and we should partake in some local cuisine. Chicago deep dish pizza. We found this awesome lil pizza joint off the corner of the mile. Called Joeys or something. The feel in the place was fun and lively. Everyone there seemed just to be happy. So we got our pizza and it was damn good. HAH. I could only eat one slice b/c it's really filling but it was great. So we stayed there for a lil while longer, trying to warm up and we were back out on the mile.
We window shopped some more including in Saks 5th ave. haha..that place is damn expenvise. I saw undies there that cost more then my yearly salary. HAH. Everyone there kinda had an attitude about them. Next we saw the water tower and then we went into Water Tower place was is basically a 7story mall..haha. We walked around there, took some pics and then checked out borders. We had done a lot of what we set out to do so we thought why not head home? Well, I had to get something for Brittney first so we went to walgreens to got stuff.. haha. Well, while in the check outline, my friend Ben calls and invites us over. So we get directins and start on our way.
Well, we had to take the subway to get there. That was an experience. HAH. It actually was pretty neat. Cincy needs something like that. So we finally get off and I call Ben and he gave me directions to his house and we finally get there after my crappy sense of direction.
We get there and hang out for a lil while. It was the highlight of the trip. Getting to see Ben and just hang out. He invited us to stay but sadly we couldn't. Another time soon. Hopefully after my birthday. But Ben and his friend Chris? were very welcoming and entertaining. I was sad when it was time to depart. But I have an IOU in chicago and I'll be back:)
So we took the train back to the Sear's Tower, located the car and headed home. I slept in the back while Michelle and Jay sat in the front keep each other awake and bonding. LOL. I'm not 100% sure what those two were talking about, but a couple times I woke up to some of the weirdest convos. LOL;) We arrived home at 5:30am and I passed out. Shoes and all.
And now, I'm at work wishing it was yesterday. It so just so amazing and I got to experience so much. A lil part of me fell in love with Chicago yesterday. Before the skyline was out of my mirror I was already missing it. It was awesome and I got to experience it with my best friends. How cool is that? I'm glad I have a friend like Michelle that will let me drag her on adventures with me. Her being there made it that much better.
Well, I'll write about Louisville later.
Later.
*wishing i was in chicago*
