Nice to meet you, too, Roze. I'm Zelgadiss.

Your life sounds busy but it's nice you'll get to spend your birthday with friends.

"Busy" is one word for it. Funny how after all this time I keep forgetting that this stuff is actually normal to the community.

But yes, it is nice. I haven't actually told them it's my birthday, but still.

I can't find it normal but I didn't think it was something you'd want to think about very much, on your birthday.

It's not a problem. It's not like it's the first time we've been chased by someone. Having it be an actual authority figure is a change, though.

Oh, no, wait, there was a bounty on our heads for a while, but considering it was placed by a clone of a dead man I'm not sure it counts as legitimate.

Your world sounds very dangerous.

Well, a lot of this happened while I was a wandering adventurer - it isn't the world that's dangerous so much as my profession, and the fact that my friends are a trouble magnet.

What do you do?

I just said, I was a wandering adventurer. Yes, that's actually a legitimate career in my world.

Well, I'm a bodyguard now, but still.

I didn't think you could get paid for travelling but if you can, that would be nice!

Who are you protecting?

Well, mostly I travel to places where I can get paid for doing things. To be honest, I was more or less a mercenary - bodyguard for some politician, clear out a cave full of monsters, that sort of thing.

But this is a full-time thing - I'm protecting the daughter of the Crown Prince of Seyruun, who's a friend of mine. Ah, the daughter, I mean; I know Amelia better than I do Prince Philionel.

Protecting a princess!

Doesn't that make you a knight?
