We and the Wii

I'm hosting our book club gathering this month, the meeting is Tuesday, I still have to read about 300 pages of Atonement before then...and Kevin got a Wii last night. So my chances of finishing the damn book just went down to about zero. I knew I should have picked a shorter book.

Kevin's friend Blake came up from Springfield this weekend to stay with us. When Blake comes to visit, it means that we a.) have dinner at Fuddrucker's at least once (but Fuddrucker's is awesome so that's no sacrifice) and b.) we go to Fry's in Downers Grove. (Fry's is an upscale electronics store. Think Best Buy crossed with Barnes & Noble).

Kevin's wanted a Wii for a while now, and we figured we might as well get something fun we can play while we're dirt poor for the next year while he does his student teaching. Also, the money he got for his birthday was burning a hole in his pocket so we went on a crazy spending spree for WiI stuff.

We got:
a Wii system
two remotes
one nunchuk
two steering wheels
two guns

Wii Sports (came with the system)
Mario Kart
Quantum of Solace
Dance Dance Revolution

Now, I'm not a gamer. The last video game I was good at was Mario Kart for Super Nintendo, circa 1995. Save for a short-lived addiction on our floor for Mario Kart 64 in college, I haven't really played in about 10 years. But I'm really liking the Wii and hoping that we can play more games together, instead of him playing and me doing something else. And I bought DDR hoping for a fun way to do some cardio. I've been walking for an hour every night trying to lose some weight. I'm super stoked for this thing.
