I really hate where music is going these days. I try to not let it bother me, but its seriously getting real fucking bad. I know that I've always been one to say how much I hate tough guy core, but each day I begin liking it more, simply because it's reliable. You know that the next CD that any tough guy band puts out will still be good. It'll be the same two steps, a switched up breakdown, some new melodies, new patterns and lyrics. I'm not saying I want every CD to sound the same and have no progression, and I'm not saying some change isn't bad. For example, the new Unearth. It's most definatly changed, I still think that it maintains a very strong Unearth quality while it is so very different from Above The Fall of Man. It's pure metal now. Not metalcore. But thats not necessarily bad. Now the on the other hand, the new Alexisonfire, Underoath, Zao, Eighteen Visions, Hopesfall, Poison The Well, Throwdown, From Autumn To Ashes etc. etc. etc. It's all turning into unlistenable shit. And its a very common trend in follow-up CDs. It's becoming so bad that when a new CD of an old band comes out, rolling the dice just as much as buying a CD of a band you've never heard. And most of the time lately the roll of the dice ends up being bad. I'm not trying to take away from any talent they have etc. etc. but I just think that these CD's are shit. Maybe its just me...
In Loving Memory Of...
Saves The Day; From Autumn To Ashes; In Flames; Hopesfall; Poison The Well; Eighteen Visions; Zao; Alexisonfire; Throwdown; Boy Sets Fire; Less Than Jake; Catch 22; Reel Big Fish; Taking Back Sunday; Thrice; Nora;
And to the countless other bands who have tarnished their names with follow-up CD's.
R.I.P.
P.S. Don't even get me started on the new bands featuring members of old bands, like the guitaris of Bane in Silent Drive (Disturbed anyone?) and the vocalist of This Runs Through doing the fucking rotten vocals for the new Underoath.
P.S.S. I haven't forgotten the bands that are consistent with their good music, or the spinoff bands that did do well. Thats not the issue though.
