Good-bye SD-1

Jun 19, 2007 16:37

Tsk, tsk, tsk - well campers, it would appear the party is in fact over in SD-1-land.  A note has finally been posted as to the status of the place - too bad there's still no explanation of what or why it happened.  The message is posted both on the SD-1 Update Journal, and on the Temp board.  The temp board also has a thread where you can post asking for info on how to contact your friends or to ask to retrieve your fics, artwork or posts, with approval of your request being granted on a on a 'case by case basis' - which translated means they (sorry, I guess I shouldn't jump to conclusions and say 'they' - so far the only one we've seen is simone/Jodi, guess there's not reason to have any other mods on a board you don't plan to reopen) still have the right to say no if they don't like you, or if you didn't follow the instructions on how to post exactly.  Hmmm...I guess the original rule of hardly any rules has gone out the window.

So here's what bugs me, and should bug other members as well, and I quote:

"As many are aware SD-1 shut down unexpectedly on Sunday, June 10, 2007. The site was hacked. If you know the culprits, good for you. If you don't know them, you don't need/ want to. Unfortunately because of this SD-1 will be shut down permanently. We realize many of you have considered SD-1 a home for many years. We have also. The most important part of a home though is feeling safe, which is a feeling we no longer have. Please know that we very much regret having to close down this site but have no wish to open ourselves up to future liability."

Let me list the things that are just so wrong with what the bolded text.  Yes, many considered SD-1 a home for many years - yet in six months time, everything is down the crapper.  Seeing the comments sending so much praise to this group for 'all the years' is a bit difficult to understand, as this group had it for less than a year and managed to screw it up!  Give thanks where thanks is due - sure maybe you liked the way it was run in those six months, but if you're thanking them for years worth of fun, you're thanks is misguided, and it really should go to Blake.

She comments that it's important to feel safe, and it's a feeling they no longer have.  Well gee, whose fault is that?  Why don't you feel safe - because you posted so much hatred, and nasty garbage about other people and it got exposed?  And why did it get exposed?  Because you had a nasty mean fight with your own friends/mods, who then turned on you and made all that garbage public!

And there's no responsibility taken for what's happened, and no apology to SD-1's members, which is really tragic.  Let's see, it says "we very much regret having to close down this site", but that's not an apology, it's just admitting you're sad that you had to close down the site - so what?  People keep commenting that they 'respect' the decision - why?  There was very little if any respect given to any of the members on SD-1, why all this respect for ruining the boards over a silly cat fight?  Yes, the boards were hacked, but why?  This was an inside job, and you have no one to blame but yourselves for not being able to act like adults and work out your differences.

And that's the real tragedy.

So long SD-1 - it really WAS fun at one time, and huge thanks to Blake for creating an Alias message board right from the start of the show.  Thanks to him for keeping it a fun place, a good place for all sorts of people to come together and talk about Alias, post art and fafic, and for friendships to grow well beyond a TV show.

Comments are welcome, but all will be screened.  If you only wish to comment and say nasty things, most likely it won't be approved for public viewing, because really, hasn't there been enough nastiness lately?  If you want to say something, but wish for your comment to remain screened from others, just say so in the comment and I will respect your wishes.

alias, sd-1
