Greys And Blues

Autolux. What a band. We hate to keep banging on about it but one thing a site overhaul does is force you to look at some stuff you might not have looked at for a while. The update sees us include a hidden rating system. It goes like this. Everything gets zero by default. Stuff we would definitely recommend to anyone get a one, stuff we wouldn't go without get a two. Autolux's album got a two. That makes it one of fifteen singles and albums to do so so far (although ¡Forward, Russia! are looking strong for an upgrade to that class). Out of a hundred and sixty two. The only American act to be recommended at all (there were forty seven 1s and 2s given out in total).

I put it back on a second ago because Capital Kind Of Strain made it into last week's Twenty without being played once. That's how good it is. When it first kicked in I thought maybe I'd been hasty in voting for it but my word, as we get to Subzero Fun and Angry Candy, the glory, the full dismal greatness of the album just shines through and it turns out to have been an inspired choice. I consider myself lucky to have a CD collection that features even a few albums which compete with it for sheer quality and cohesion.

Don't be afraid of it, people. Embrace it. Oh, and if you can think of a name for it (Nu Grunge is too nineties for our liking) that'd be great. In the meantime, cheerio.

autolux, future perfect
