I'm sitting in a little bit of silence, probably the only glut of such that'll befall this room for the day. Yesterday was Singles Day At HMV but heaven knows music wise it was a pretty heavy weekend (it's Pay Day Week here too) so the actual purchases from HMV were a little thinner. Specifically, the now returned Archie Bronson Outfit album, Derdang Derdang - not bad but not good enough for such a high spending month - Neon Plastix's Prick Tease, which to be honest looks hideous and Zero 7's Future's which, I dunno, we ignored Zero 7 entirely on their last release and in retrospect that seems a bit harsh since their only crime was not ever quite managing to be breathtaking.
Today, through the door, have fallen The Borrowed Ladder by Asaviour and the Warp 12" sampler for the movie Renaissance, featuring LFO, Clark and Plaid as well as Louis Warbeck from France. Hmm, interesting, from the cover art Renaissance looks like an animated flick. Oh well, from the Warp writeup the tracks sound pretty meaty from all three of their luminaries. Asaviour's playing now and I dunno, it's more Northern Hip Hop, which is rapidly losing love in Chez Unlixes in favour of the darker, more innately twisted sound of Grime. Too much scratching, too many samples, not enough beats, not enough woozy, menacing bass. We shall see. I get the feeling it has a Wu Tang like quality to it that might shine through.
Oh, strangely in with the Warpmart package came a DVD magazine heavily sponsored by T-Mobile (I mean, all they've done is put there logo on it but the entire design of the DVD screams of their own in house designers) for electronic music. Called Slices it looks quite neat. I'll take a watch and decide if I think DVD magazines are the way forward or not. I think they might be.
So, anyway, as well as Derdang Derdang I also took back Nathan Fake's album. I've got a bit of credit at the Bank Of HMV now but I also picked up the Daft Punk best of. Because their best of is very much a best. I'm sure it's missing one or two tracks but considering it has got Da Funk, Around The World, One More Time and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger you'd be hard pressed to find an album anywhere in any genre as good. Next up, a quick ode to Daft Punk and all they represent.
