Anyone remember
The Fabrics? No, didn't think so. They're actually a really good band. People should have heard of them. When people describe Squarepusher they're often actually describing The Fabrics by mistake. Dark, awkward, glitched and bent backwards jazz? Yeah, definitely.
Anyway, so, going through and putting links for all the bands, while an enormous great chore that puts me off writing anything also has some advantages. The most obvious of which being that you are forced to check up on bands websites and in doing so, hey guess what, I've just found out that Clinic are releasing a new album. Apparently it won't be as dark as Winchester Cathedral (although being dark wasn't that album's fault, it was being uninspired). It will also, apparently, and happily, have a bit of a pop background. And since me and Clinic have a similar idea of what constitutes poppy I don't in any way find that worrying. There's be more skiffle to it, apparently too, which hopefully means the sensibility which added those wonderful woodblocks to The Equaliser.
Like I say, it doesn't matter how much their last album disappointed it takes a pretty massive downturn in quality to stop a fanboy being excited about a good band's new release.
Clinic are A Good Band.
The other thing putting links can do is tell you about a band's rise or fall.
Elbow's homepage is the first thing that comes up when you search for the word "elbow". Impressive for such a generic word. Clinic no longer have that luxury. The same used to be true of Tim Hutton, whereas now there doesn't seem to be a website for him at all...
