Whip 'Em On

Wow. It's Tuesday and no HMV update. Yesterday I only got as far as listening to Black Wire, today I've only listened to track one of the next CD, Stateless' The Bloodstream EP. I like Stateless. Totally wrote them off when I got their first CD but it does play on my playlist so what can I say, it gets put in. Then suddenly it's grown on me. It's a bit like Keane with DJ Shadow sensibilities and oh my gosh how lazy journalist slug was that. Oh well. It's very trip hop, I keep expecting to look down and find out it's on Melodic. No. What am I thinking of? Shit, I've forgotten the name of that label. Massive Attack's label, shit. I knew it two seconds ago. It's not though, it's on Regal.

This EP seems nice as well. I was surprised by Black Wire though, they're such a bland sounding band, considering their first single was called Attack Attack Attack. It might grow on me, but as a sort of blend of Razorlite and The Alterkicks and sounding a lot like all those average bands from Leeds and such (hello The Wow!, Buzzkill, etc) before it became a creative hotbed I dunno. I don't hold out much hope. Next to go on the stereo is Go! by Common. Produced by KanYe West, that's no surprise. What is a surprise is that the video (which is the main reason I bought the CD) is by KanYe too. It looks more like a Preloader affair, very, very nice, very graphic design oriented. Just. Lovely stuff. Lovely jubbly.

Stateless are still on, they don't write pop tunes so their four track EP is twenty minutes long. Melankolic? Is that the label I was thinking of? Well, Stateless' first single, Down Here (which is lovely as I say, slow burn in excelsis), I purchases because the sleeve was designed by Matt Cook at Intro. I just thought I'd share that with you.

I will also tell you completely in secret that I have played Conductor 71, the Fujiya & Miyagi song (delivered today by Juno, who I frankly cannot praise enough - look and learn Rough Trade). I did it by accident not remembering yesterday's CDs hadn't been listened to yet.

Sorry folks, there is more to come today. That Fujiya reaction in full, a bit about the cover CD I got with a magazine and a summary of last night's music event.

black wire, singles day at hmv, kanye west, matt cook, stateless, intro, fujiya & miyagi, common
