This time, I will write in English 'cos I want everyone to understand this matter on cosplay.
Nono, don't get the wrong idea! I am not trying to teach you what cosplay means. There are already explanations for it. =)
Basically, I do not understand why most locals are envious of certain overseas cosplayers. However, I am more pissed about them saying "Japanese/Taiwan/China cosplayers are ALL professional, Singapore cosplayers are not up to the standard yet". All I see in the forum everytime is nice and convincing pictures of different overseas cosplayers. Of course! Can I call y'all frogs in the well? Y'all just view whatever people post which are their favourites too. Anyone bothers to post ugly pictures? No, right? I actually browsed into a foreign forum before, and yes, one of the countries y'all said the cosplayers there are ALL PROs. There consists of pictures of not only good-looking ones but also bad-looking ones too, and the members there actually pick flaws out from even what locals-call-them-professional cosplayers. For sure, you guys will say those commenters are jealous of cosplayers. So, can I say y'all are jealous of every cosplayer in your country who can cosplay in return?
You guys may not bother to know about some of your beloved professional overseas cosplayers can actually buy their costumes/accessories/props from cosplay stores and hire makeup artistes and hair stylist to help them. I recalled one incident in Taiwan that there was this particular rich male cosplayer who actually hired someones to help in his Jrock cosplays. *rolled eyes* In Singapore, most of the cosplayers try means and ways to do everything themselves since we do not have enough resources like your fortunate professional cosplayers have. However, I am glad Singapore doesn't have such a "7-11" cosplay store at all, so everyone has to learn to make props, weapons accessories and costumes themselves. Basically, I am only alright with buying merchandised accessories from stores, and letting tailors make costumes as some of the cosplayers do not know how to make a basic - looking costume themselves.
Good or so-called professional cosplays means regardless of nationality, race and status. You make the most expensive costume but it doesn't mean your cosplay is good. You are good in propmakings but it doesn't mean your cosplay is good. You are good in cosplay but it doesn't mean you are good in tailoring or propmaking. You are rich but it doesn't mean the amount of cosplays or costumes you do doesn't mean you are good in cosplay. You are poor or belongs to the second class rich but it doesn't mean you cannot even cosplay well. You are good in cosplay but it doesn't mean people will like you and you will become popular. You are good in cosplay but it doesn't stop people from rather appreciating the moon overseas. Even you put hell alot of efforts in your cosplay but it doesn't mean you can cosplay well...? So... Cosplay is about putting efforts in it, look-alike-ness, portrayal... Which factor is most important? Or just becase "Oh, Singapore? There isn't any cosplayers who reach the standard!". So, what standard are you refering? Don't tell me Japanese or Taiwanese cosplayers are the role models, There are hidden sad and gone cases within their countries too. Even a few foreign cosplayers said there are such cases happening in their countries too. Imagine Singapore is already a small island... So what are you calculating about? Just because you are ashamed to born in this country full of sucky cosplays that you assume? It seems you guys prejudge on the nationality. On the other hand, I know It's a nature that everyone likes to be envious of nice-looking things and ends up having low self-esteem. Let me tell you, you can be another good one too. It's not being envious of others and doing nothing to improve yourself. You HAVE to learn, try out and improve if you wanna succeed. Don't think about one step to the heaven, learn something to improve, isn't that what life should be? You need not to be egoistic but confident. You need not be popular to show how good your cosplay is.
I also have to say this about some oldie cosplayers, from your mentality nowadays, all newbies means noobs. Being anti-social away from such people and others you despised by pretending to be nice on surface when they approach you but backstab them hard behind them in MSN Chat or blog by setting "friends only" to view. Some people may be stubborn enough to learn but there are some others who really need people to teach them to improve. You guys as oldies do nothing but preserve your knowledges in a total of selfishness. Anyway, I don't like to share for nothing but I will help if I can when people ask me, I dare to admit on this.
Cosplay should be a fun sub-culture, not political. We say we can get to make friends in cosplay but all I see is we get to make enemies we dislike in cosplay. Okay, like rumours. Spread here and there about someone and try to make everyone dislike or beware of him/her. Do you take cosplay as a war or politics? Why are you there to make this cosplay circle more angsty? To people who believe in rumours, you better jump down from your window and go to hell if that rumour monger tells you so. Interact with the people instead of prejudge him/her by what you see and hear.
I hope everyone should do soul searching.
I do not care if anyone disagrees with me and tries to flame me hard 'cos it doesn't hide the facts by the way.
There was a period of time I hated myself for what I said but now I think I should be just myself from now on.
