Mom's visit

Jun 08, 2011 14:48

My mom has been staying with me, Ray and Erika for the entire May, and will stay until mid-July, to spend some time with our new baby after he's born. I haven't felt so spoiled in a long time. Mom has been cooking delicious food every day, and spending time with Erika, not to mention doing a lot of the housework I used to do. Now I can spend so much more time on my personal pursuits. However, I still don't think I'll be able to finish writing a software application that would do automatically certain things I do manually every day (don't ask, it's not ready for prime time), and build upon that to do even more fabulous things. This application, actually, might have been finished long ago if not for my propensity to redefine the project constantly. Having already rewritten it for two different programming platforms already (though the first attempt was incomplete, as I got stuck on an issue that was taking way too much time to figure out on a given platform, and I decided to switch to a different one that was better aligned with my professional history and immediate employment goals), I suddenly thought "What about MVC? Why don't I use this project to learn MVC?" And so I decided to rewrite it from scratch in MVC on .NET. And that's why it's not ready yet.

I don't think I'll be able to finish it before the baby comes. But that wasn't my point. It's nice to feel pampered. So nice that even with the stress of my still-new job, I almost feel like I'm on vacation. This will end soon with the birth of the baby, so I'm milking it for all it's worth for now.
