An ordinary birthday came and went. (Erika to daddy: "Is mama three or two?" Steve: "She is very three.") We had a nice dinner at Joe Dimaggio's Chophouse at the Domain, where food is tasty and service is good; but for the kind of prices they have there I expect perfection, which would require the pianist to turn the volume down. It may be as simple as not using an amplifier. You can barely hear yourself think over the din.
But my real birthday present will come tomorrow. William Gibson at Barnes & Noble! I'm taking a day off to be the first in the ticket line at 3 pm. Though that's a lot of time to kill until 7:30 pm when the signing starts. I hope Barnes & Noble has enough electric outlets so I can camp out on the floor with my laptop, and write and do my usual hobby computing stuff in those hours before Gibson's appearance.
