With roots in an earlier season tweak (a solidly founded friendship between Fred and Willow following their acquaintance), laid!verse takes off shortly after 5.09 "Harm's Way". Following Spike's recorporealisation in 5.08, he returns to Europe, where he stays to assist Buffy and the gang. (And I have no idea what they're doing there but Shana's offline so she'll fill me in later/tomorrow and we'll flesh it out for the BTVS players!) Due to both Spike's and Fred's connection with her, Willow is able to make her way to L.A. and pull Cordelia out of her mystical coma, though Cordelia still rampantly disagrees with the team's move to Hell, Inc. and chooses to remain at the Hyperion.
Otherwise, events carry on as usual. Gunn will begin to lose his law and linguistic savvy, resulting in a signed customs slip and the arrival of Illyria, though a series of events once again involving Willow will allow both Fred and Illyria to exist in the verse - Fred's soul will be removed from her body before it is consumed by Illyria's essence, and a new one will be constructed via some admittedly dicey magic-casting. Angel's son, Connor, continues to live a normal life with the Reillys, and the only ones to retain memories of him are Cordelia and Angel, though with the discovery of the Window of Orlon this may change in the future.
The battle between Good and Evil continues to rage on surreptitiously, moral dilemmas abound, and though both the Scoobies and Team Angel are visibly pleasant with one another, antagonistic attitudes remain towards each other's approach to the silent war.
