Thespians: We are EVERYWHERE.

I Love College. Lets just start off with that.
So yesterday morning I was sitting by myself at breakfast, and a very sweet, (Very cute), girl came and asked to sit with me..We get to talking and she starts talking about her competitions she is always going to. My first assumption was, Oh cheerleading or Gymnastics, WAY off.
It turn out she is a fellow thespian (Honor's Drama kid person, for those of you who dont know) and she goes to the state and district competitions, LIKE ME! I was the president of The International Thespian Society and representative for my area, as well as the President of our Drama program. It is SUCH a small world. of course when she tells me, I squeal and say "AH! Meeee Toooo!!!" so we spent the last hour taking about the State competition, that we both attended/performed at, and it was soo much fun.
This morning, I decided to do another experiment. I am wearing my State shirt.....and sure enough, in the breakfast line, a different girl coments on how cool my shirt was, and that she went to States too!
Better Yet, I get on the bus, it's PACKED. then I hear this girl that says "Hey Thespian" (not to be confused with Lesbian, but I guess that would have worked too)
and i turn around, and she makes room for me.
SHE WENT TO STATES as well...so we were taking the whole 20 or so minutes on our different performances and plays we have put up.
I feel so awesome to have been a part of such a loving and badass community (The Gay community is legit too..)
I can make new friends everywhere I go, It's pretty sweet. I just had to write about it.
***For those of you Non-Drama folk, here is kinda how it goes. The state of Florida is chopped up into districts, Mine happens to have been District 9, within that district, there are Troupes, which are usually just different schools. the competitions are as follows:
I.E.'s (Individual events) where you or your troupe go to to compete in a variety of events. Monologues, duets, Tech events (dirrecting, set design, costume construction, publicity, etc...) and musical events. You go here, and get judged, the highest you can get is 3 straight superiors, but the judges can choose from those, or excillents, goods, Fair's and Maybe Poors? (but i dont know about the latter...that's like unheard of) From there, it is really for the troupe to decide who performs at states...usually it is only 10 from every troupe (mine had 120-ish members, so this is VERY elite and special to be chosen to represent your school)
Next is One-Acts. which is exactly as it sounds. each troupe from the district presents their one-act play and is judged. the 5 best get to represent the district at States.
then it's STATES!!!
States is when every disctict and ever troupe is represented. we are talking 10,000+ Thespians all running around Downtown tampa. It is the best time I have ever had. I have gone the last 3 years. Basically it is a Wednesday-Saturday event of Full Length Plays (Main Stages) Classes and workshops (Everything from play writing, african dance, Improv, circus acrobats, and everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in between) All of the winning one-acts from the districts are always shown, as well as the winning I.E. pieces. so there is ALWAYS something to do.

Very exciting. Now, because I was just way too excited remembering all of this, I have totally lost all sight of what my main point was...But It's all good. Right now I'm on a bench on the green...OUTSIDE, and have full Wifi...College rocks...

I Hope everyone is having a wonderful day, and an even better weekend!!! I am actually on my way after class to go home to surprise my mother for a weekend visit....gaahhh in the car for 6 hours!!! but It's sooo worth it, she has really been taking me leaving very hard, this will make her sooo happy. And i get to see my family! so exciting. and i get hugs!!!! Hugs are in such limited supply here at college. Very sad state of affair.

anywho, that's all for now. Off to go watch some Allison Janney videos, the perfect way to start off your day. :)
