Wow great, so one of our university partners from cali came in yesterday to talk with us. Anyways lots of cool new ideas for learning objects to develop. Some problems that deal with molarity (keep wanting to spell it morality). Then maybe a few intro to bio labs that i could possibly develop. I also got some more plant photos for the plant ID quiz i had been developing over the summer. There was one more but i cant remember what it is off the top of.... nevermind, its making something that teaches percent dilution of a solution. Think im going to skip the farm progress show thats going on to work on these.
I went kayaking last night on the Iowa River. Put in right by that broken bridge that you can see off of 380. It was lots of fun. One of these days i need to figure out how to measure how far i go in what time period. The water was so smooth last night and the sky... wow. Until a speed boat came along. It looked like they were barefoot waterskiing. So yeah when i hit the 1 hr mark and turned around i noticed that 500-1000 birds were landing on the lake! Amazing to see, the entire shore line was white with these birds - they looked almost like pellicans. So i paddled over there to get a closer look - and to see how close i could get. They all took off! Wow the sky was just full of them, with the sun setting and these thousands of birds flying 20-30 feet above me, it was beautiful. Until i realized with that many birds, thats probally a lot of bird poop, so i unsucessfully tried to get out from under the huge flock. Paddled under 380 and the road that runs parallel to it - carp were surface feeding again, but i wasnt able to get any of them. One of these days i want to bring a spear or something like that and get one or two of those elusive carp.
