DOUMEKI:
From the beginning, he's always understood Yuuko far better than Watanuki... or, if not the Witch herself, at least the rules of her trade. For that, I think Yuuko's always had less of a mentor status to him than she does to Watanuki. She'll play that role, and she has, if he needs it, but the thing is that he rarely does need her to do that outright. He's an extremely determined kid with a healthy dose of sincerity and courage (but not brashness!) and Yuuko admires and respects that in him. If he ever gave up on anything, she would be really truly worried because that's just not like him. Doumeki is totally her pseudo-son and also her sometimes partner-in-crime and the boy who takes care of her charge when she can't be there to help. Or when she knows she just needs to step back and let them work it out themselves, even if it sucks sometimes. Not that she doesn't trust ( ... )

ON incest DOUMEKI AND WATANUKI AND THEIR failRELATIONSHIP:
Good lord, where to even start? UH, okay. Hitsuzen. That quintessential cornerstone of their relationship; bound, wrapped, and inseparable in a neat little package. It's an annoyance of no end to Watanuki, but... well, who cares what he thinks anyway? >D
I think she actually explains their relationship once in canon (to who, I don't remember), but the gist of what I got from it was this: they're stuck with each other whether they like it or not; their bond is one of the strongest kinds out there; and it's not love, it's something deeper. I think that fits the general vibe of their back-and-forth. You can't really categorize it so neatly into "best friends" or "lovers" or "guardian-ward", and Yuuko doesn't bother trying. Categories are overrated in her world, anyway. Instead, she'll just go with "most important person" and leave the interpretation of that to the boys to figure out. they probably never will, but that's half the ( ... )
