Today I received an email that said, in part:
As Kodak has needed to continue to reduce costs, our sponsor has let
the Kodak Camera Club know that it will no longer be able to use the
facility in Building 28. As a result, the Kodak Camera Club will permanently
shut down the Digital Workstation Facility on June 29, 2007. The B/W
Darkroom Facility will shut down permanently on July 30, 2007.
That's the sad end of an organization that once had members all over the world, ran world-class photo competitions, and in that Building 28 facility operated several dozen black and white, color, and digital darkrooms, a full photo studio, its own processing, printing, and mounting facilities,a large lending library of cameras and lenses. They taught dozens of classes every year to employees, retirees, and family members who, on their own time, wanted to learn about imaging technology.
It's been in decline for at least ten years, as the company gave less and less support. This looks like the final nail.
