Music, dancing, and books.

I had a great time at Faerieworlds this last weekend. I got to hang out with a whole bunch of my friends (while making a few new ones), camp, dance, learn a new game, and work a little. I purchased a couple sweet additions to my wardrobe and broke in some new boots. One of the big high lights: I got to stand around a chit-chat with Brian Froud. I asked him how much figure drawing and real-life reference he used in his work. He said (basically), "Quite a lot." He then went on to share, in his English accent, about how he worked to make things look real and not fanciful, like they really could physically exist and how much drawing from reality factored in even more so now than in his earlier work. It was really a treat.

The music was also great. I'm going to pick up a Trillian Green CD for my niece, as the flutist in the band was pretty fantastic. I am so very proud of her; she was recently accepted into the San Jose Youth Symphony Orchestra's flute ensemble. Hopefully, the music will be inspirational.

I had a moment this weekend, Sunday afternoon, when someone came up to me and said they’d taken photos of us dancing and wanted to email them to me. I am always happy to have photos of the troupe, and since most of us (four of the six in the troupe) were there, and it was truly an improvisational performance, I was excited to get them. The gentleman who gave me his email had a name that rang a bell. I'm kicking myself for not mentioning it to him while we were standing there exchanging information. Charles de Lint. I'm a yutz. I haven't read any of his work, but it likely would have been good of me to acknowledge, "Hey, you're an artist I've heard of who's making it as an artist; that rocks." What the heck is the protocol for that sort of thing?
