I stayed home today and around 1 o'clock I decided I wanted to walk to a cafe in Winfield so I could read, get some tea or coffee or something and also maybe some food. I checked the cafe's website to make sure they were open and sure enough, open pretty much all day.
I grabbed some books, my mp3 player and started walking. The sky looked kind of bad but all summer at work it has looked like that and never did anything so I thought it was worth the risk. PLus, it's ok if I get a little rained on walking home or something. I get to the cafe completely dry, no rain yet and walk up to the door.
I pull on the handle and nothing, locked. I look in the window real close and it's dark and empty. There's a little sign on part of the door saying they changed their hours because Friday night, the only night they are open and served dinner, was such a success that they changed the cafe to a sit down restaurant only open from 5-9. I turn around to walk away or go somewhere else and the monsoon hit.
The wind was making the sheets of rain travel 10 or 20 feet and the rain was coming down like crazy. It all hit at once, no drizzling build up or anything. I was sort of thinking, "shit, what now?" when I remembered the italian restaurant across the street. I could sit and read there and even smoke too.
I waited for the rain and traffic to let up a little and crossed the street fast and walked up to the door of the restaurant. A woman I recognized as a cook there and friend of my dad graciously told me they aren't open until 4. I told her I wanted to go to the cafe and they changed hours too. I asked her, just casually, if they were hiring and she got really excited and told me, "Yes! In fact, we're desperate right now!"
We waited about 10-15 minutes until the alarms would be off and she could go in to work and I went in with her, and she gave me an application to fill out. I sat and filled it out then went and found her. I had told her about how I was lifeguarding this summer and wanted a job in the fall and she immediately asked me when I handed her the application when I was available to work. I didn't realize when I was filling out the application that I was hired already! So I'm going into for 3 days of training next week and the following monday then working that weekend. I don't know what I'll be paid or how that works, but it's exciting nonetheless. I'm not extremely excited about it, but at least I have a job secured for this fall.

I haven't had much to say recently but with school starting soon, starting a new job and other things, I think I'll start writing in here again. We'll see
