Once again Legolas found himself sitting across from his companion in the tavern where they had met the young bard. As a courtesy, Legolas had wished to tell her that they would not need her assistance in their quest. He hoped as well to take measure of her once again as she had intrigued him, there was something of her that brought to his mind the ( Read more... )

Boromir was uneasy. His eyes shifted restlessly around the room, the two palantir between their bodies and the wall, hidden in their packs and the packs not from general observation.

At Legolas' comment he turned his head and cast a quick glance toward the woman who sang. "Would've drawn quite a crowd at the Five Armies too I'd hazard," he commented, his eyes returning to their scanning of the room. He hadn't wanted to pause in their departure from the City, only conceding to Legolas's insistence when the Elf had said there was good reason, he was sure, to make contact with the woman again.

"If indeed she could be heard above the men once they were in their cups." Legolas smiled, recalling how noisy the tavern could become.

Boromir huffed his agreement as he looked back at her. "She's comely enough I think the men would've been too busy looking to do much else."

"Aye, but would their hands have survived an attempt to follow their eyes." Legolas laughed.

She'd seen them enter, the disappearance of her unusual guest on the night they'd come to Uniting Kingdoms leaving her wondering at the coincidence. Each day since she'd kept an eye out for them, questions wriggling for answers unabated. It was all she could do, complete the song she was doing, and make her way across to the two.

"Don't mind if I do," she said, her intense interest only kept at bay by her noticing of the furtive looks by the larger man, the one who carried the similar colours to Aragorn. Even before she'd seated herself the questions started. "I've been wondering if I'd see you again, or if I'd missed you. Have you been back since we met?"

Legolas shook his head. "We have only returned this night, lady, to thank you for your attempt to aid us and take our leave of you. We have found that which we sought and are returning to our home."

"You have?" she asked, a little surprised but also curious as to what the item was, this family heirloom. It almost pushed her train of thought off track but she drew back to it, mixed feelings evident on her face as she looked from one to the other. "Then what I have to tell you probably doesn't matter any more. When do you leave?"

"Tonight," Boromir answered without hesitation, his discomfort clearly visible to her both physically and metaphysically.

Boromir caught the glance from Legolas and looked across at Kaycee. He had wondered if she knew of the museum but surmised from her question she didn't. When the woman's eyes fixed on him also he grimaced lightly.

"It's a special stone, wrought by those from our time who made a number of them," he told her, the slow nod she started confirming that she knew something of what he spoke. "What do you know of it?" he asked, his attention now on the woman.

Kaycee looked from one to the other as she inhaled slowly. "I... think I know of one," she admitted. The man's eyes darted across to Legolas then back to her as he asked her, "One where?"

"Here," she told them, wanting to tell them more but unsure just how much to say. "It was what I had with me when ... Aragorn and I met."

Legolas leaned closer, surprised. "Where is this stone now? May we see it?"

Again Kaycee paused before answering, looking from one to the other. "It's safe, kept hidden, as he asked for it to be kept," she told them. "This one you found, that you recovered, where is it?"
