whoop whoop, redding

yo! i'm sitting on the stage of this coffe shop/show house in redding, ca called SERENDIPITY. this large black dude is sound checking his set. my sound checks are usually 5 seconds or less, but this dude is doing about 30 seconds of each track. word!

uhhh yeah. this is a picture from the show 2 nights ago in goleta (UCSB campus):

there was a good 20+ kids in the living room of this house, but the vibe was so incredibly cold. it was really sad... they didn't have anything to say about the panda suit. i RARELY bust out the panda suit, and i thought the show would be a fun vibe for that, but it wasn't. oh well.

for a history lesson:

before the show we whipped around the city and spent a fair amount of time in this organic grocery store, loving all the vegan options and spending way too much money on food. we then headed to santa barbara (only about 5 miles from goleta) to play an in-store at buffalo records. if you are ever in the santa barbara area, that place is worth a check out. the vinyl collection is off the hook, and the owner, john, is a superbly cool guy. the in-store was really warm and fresh, and everyone there really dug what we were doing. we played with Caldera, a drums and keys duo from san luis obispo. they were fun and soft, and i enjoyed the experience. after the jams, i asked the calderans what time to be at the house show, and they told me they were going to roll in about 7.

when we found out that the house was only a block and a half from where we were staying, we decided to go back to the crash pad and burn cds/chill/cook/eat/etc. we left for the show at 8:20, in order to be fashionably late, but as it turned out, the show was supposed to start at 7 sharp, and we were supposed to open. aaahhh! kev, casey and i all did 15 minute sets back to back, and that brings us full circle to the above paragraph. thankfully we were treated with love and a big vegan sub sandwich, so everything was cool.

after the eats, we went to this party house "on the DP" - that means it was a house on the beach. all the kids there were incredibly smashed, and it was a bit lame, so we headed back to the crash pad and did just that - sawing logs until mid morning the next day.

i woke up early and watched most of "y tu mama tambien" on my computer while casey and kev slept. then we headed out in the afternoon to stay the night with my friends vicky and dawn in san jose. that's where we ended up last night.

today we drove into san francisco and spent a couple of hours in record stores trying to sell our albums with much avail. no luck. ack. now we're full circle to the first paragraph. the dude's done with the sound check and i'm about ready to let kev surf the net.

love and peace. i'll be home for the weekend. ;-)
