[Queenie's AU] November 17, 2010
The sandwich shop stood in a busy part of town, across the street from an office building and between a pet shop and a video game store. Lunch breaks for employees at each of those buildings meant a visit to Queenie's, for one of their city-famous subs or a cup of the award-winning chili.
Today, though, things were oddly quiet for a Friday afternoon, as though the world was holding its breath with anticipation. Fran didn't like it.
Then again, Fran didn't like any change to the tidy little routine she'd set up in her life. She was a fan of methodical, neat, crisp, and it showed in how she kept the shop and made her food. A twiggy little woman, she stood behind the counter, cleaning the register for the third time this afternoon and glancing at the door, waiting to see what might enter.
