whisper things into my brain, the words sound so hollow

I took down the curtain that separates the room my computer's in (which used to be my bedroom) from the rest of the basement. As well, I finally threw out the old boxspring and the chair that were in here. Everything echoes loudly now, and it's colder, I think.

Anyway, I'm back to postings WIPs. This one I've hesitated on for a very simple reason: I think it's too gen for my themes. And when I think something's too gen to count as a pairing fic, you know there's a problem. But I like it. So nyah. Worst comes to worse, I'll rewrite the theme. But for now... *shrug*

title: Stories
fandom: Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle
pairing: Fai/Yuui
words: 237
for 15pairings theme #13: star gazing
spoilers: up to and including chapter 158

Fai had always loved the stars. Before everything had changed and everything had been lost, you would sit side by side near the window late into the night, pressed together and wrapped in the same blanket for warmth. The small dots of light would be connected together by your combined imaginations to make beautiful pictures of people and animals and Fai would come up with elaborate tales of how they'd come to live in the sky.

Later, when freedom and happiness were only vague memories, Fai called his stories down to you until his voice went hoarse. The stories were more elaborate: always tragic in the beginning, but with endings filled with greater happiness than either of you had ever known. Hardships were overcome and fitting rewards were received by the sufferers in the end.

It was when his voice gave way and his stories could no longer reach you that desperation began to chip at your sanity.

And when you're finally together again, his head against your shoulder, your arms around him and the sky stretching wide above you both, it isn't Fai's voice that tells the stories, but your own. You whisper beautiful tales about the impossible, lips pressed against his ear. You clutch him close as though you can somehow put heat back into his body. You try to give him hope like he gave you as though he can still somehow hear it.
