I remember feeling low, and I remember losing hope
No shit, I rewrote the fifth line in the first one no less than, like, fifteen times. Drove me nuts. I also used up all my witty pun title skillz on the second one and couldn't think of anything to name the first ^_^;; I'll still change it if I think of something better later on ^_^;;
The second is my favourite, no contest.

Again, an AU in the sense that it's a different Kurogane and Fai, and yet not because TRC kinda encompasses everything ^_^;; Someone wrote a fic about pirates awhile ago, and that was totally the cause of this ^_^;;
"Captain -"
"Don't call me that. It's weird."
The blond sighs and shifts slightly under the heavier man. "So, things are going to change?"
"Do you want them to?"
"Yes," the answer is immediate, but his voice is small as though he still somehow expects to be pushed away.
"Then stop calling me Captain. It's weird."
"What works, then? Kuro-tan? Kuro-rin?" there's a teasing lilt to his voice, now. A kind of relief.
The dark-haired man bites the shoulder beneath his head none-too-lightly, hand curling around a hip to keep the blond from squirming away. "Kurogane will be fine."
Giggles fade into silence and the pair lay listening to the bustle of the men on the deck above and the lapping of the sea below.
"Are we going to make it?" The question itself is frank, though there are a number of things he could be referring to. He could be thinking that they're fourteen days off course and running short on food and water. Or he could be referring to the fact that the ship has been torn to pieces by the storms of the past week and, despite attempted repairs, is still unsteady in the choppy waters. Or maybe he's worried because half the crew is ready to mutiny, as often happens when a routine voyage unexpectedly goes to hell.
Laying with the blond beneath him in the relative calm of the moment, he can imagine only one outcome: "Yeah, we'll make it."

Fai was not jealous because some book was apparently more interesting than he was. That would be silly. And immature. And completely unlike the blond.
So if he felt the need to wander around naked while Kurogane was reading Maganyan, it was merely because the country's clothing was scratchy. If he happened to settle in Kurogane's lap while in this state, it was strictly because the ninja was occupying the only comfortable chair in the room. And if the book were to be tossed carelessly aside at some point shortly thereafter, it definitely had not been planned by any wizard.
