It isn't exactly what you'd imagined. You don't know what paths the man has followed since running from home, but when at last the two of you stand face-to-face, he's hardly a person you recognize.
It's not his physical appearance, though the patch across his eye and slump of his shoulders is to say the least unfamiliar. His magic is nothing compared to what it once was, but that isn't quite it either. You can still sense something else. Something fundamentally different about him, though you can't place your finger on what it is. The man who stands before you has become a stranger, but still you bask in the relief that you have found him at all. There must still be pieces of the man you loved lost in him somewhere, and you will dig until you find them.
He flinches away when you approach him, eyes wide with something that can only be fear, though this man has nothing to fear from you. No matter what he's done to you, or how he's hurt you. No matter how things have changed, you could never raise a hand to him. He owns you completely and you wonder how it is that he still doesn't realize it.
When the initial shock wears off and he finally speaks, there's a tired hint of resignation in his voice, as though he doesn't believe you'll find a way around the dilemma he lays out. A way around his unexpected dependance on a short-haired, sword-wielding brute of a man. His one good eye is pleading, though whether he's asking you to save him or leave him in peace, you can't say.
Fai always has played the most elaborate games with your mind.
