[Background]

Overall, Kasuka’s childhood was fairly decent. He had caring parents and a caring brother named Shizuo-though Shizuo was… special, shall we say. It all started when Kasuka was five and ate out of Shizuo’s yogurt cup.

Cue a nine-year-old Shizuo picking up the refrigerator to throw it at Kasuka.

Fortunately for Kasuka and not-so-fortunately for Shizuo, that action caused several dislocations and muscle damage shortly after he picked it up. Thus, he ended up not throwing the fridge at Kasuka, who called the ambulance.

To make a long story short, Shizuo was able to use the full potential of his muscles, which granted him amazing strength. This plus his bad temper led to unintentional rages-one of which ended up hurting an innocent acquaintance that gave them milk. Therefore, as a reminder of this, Kasuka sometimes gave Shizuo milk to remind him to stay calm. Not that he was personally afraid of Shizuo, however-the two brothers were close.

A notable rage of Shizuo’s was against a talent scout who approached him and whom Kasuka saved the scout, ultimately being scouted to be a model in Shizuo’s place. Eventually, he became an actor as well, starring in his debut “Camilla Saizo, Vampire Ninja” under the stage name of “Yuuhei Hanejima.” Apparently, he also became rich through a TV program “Money Gamer,” where he made 1.2 billion yen in one month starting from 1 million yen.

Meanwhile, due to his temper, Shizuo kept getting fired from his jobs. In hopes that he’d manage to keep his current job as a bartender, Kasuka gave him twenty bartender outfits. This didn’t stop Shizuo from getting fired again, unfortunately.

Another note of importance: the city, Ikebukuro, described as “a town that knows not what rest is,” from Shizuo’s rages to headless riders to gang wars-

-to a serial killer and an assassin fighting each other in a park one night. There were two other people in the vicinity, but neither party chose to take notice of them, writing them off as insignificant as the assassin took a briefcase from one of them to use as a weapon. Sadly, that was just about one of the biggest mistakes he could’ve made, for it should be said that one of those two ‘unremarkable’ people was none other than Shizuo, who did not appreciate having his friend be robbed. He reacted in typical Shizuo fashion (i.e. swinging the park bench at the two fighters), rendering the assassin unconscious while the serial killer was sent flying.

As for what any of this has to do with Kasuka?

-He witnessed the body’s fall.

He was driving around the streets that night, unable to find his brother and debating whether or not he should text him when the serial killer fell on the road with a ‘thud.’ As was typical for it, it was dressed in a monster-like costume, which had earned it its nickname, “Hollywood.” However, rather than freaking out, Kasuka calmly parked his car and stepped out to take a closer look-bodies falling from the sky were hardly unusual to him, after all.

Deducing quickly that the body was indeed Hollywood, Kasuka took off the mask. Lo and behold, the person underneath wasn’t merely a deranged stranger; no, it was, in fact, a fellow idol of his by the name of Ruri Hijiribe. Instead of calling the ambulance, Kasuka placed her in his car and called for Shinra Kishitani, a back alley doctor and old classmate of Shizuo’s, before taking her to his apartment.

(According to him later on, his reasons for saving her was because he realized that Shizuo was probably responsible for her injuries, which he felt guilty about.)

One thing about Ruri: she, like many people in the city, was… different. Her healing capacity was amazing-second only to Shizuo and a genuine ‘monster.’ Consequently, her condition wasn’t critical, and it didn’t take her long to wake up. It also didn’t take her long to pin Kasuka against the bed, finger at his throat, prepared to kill him.

To his credit, Kasuka, again, didn’t freak out whatsoever. Not only that, but-to make a long story short-he convinced Ruri to let him live. There was still one matter to deal with, though: shady people were trailing her. In order to stop them from making a move, Kasuka and Ruri faked being lovers in front of the apartment, catching the paparazzi’s attention.

Several days later, due to her manager suddenly disappearing, Ruri switched over to Kasuka’s agency, where they continued pretending to be a couple. There, she also tried to confess her past to him, but he refused, as he realized she was planning to kill herself afterwards.

[Personality]

If there’s one word that’s often used to describe Kasuka, it’s “robotic,” and Ruri even calls him a “perfect mannequin.” His expression never changes, he never shows emotions, etc.-as a result, it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking or if he means what he says. He seems to be unaware of his lack of expressions to some extent, as shown when Shinra comments that he should be smiling, and he replies, “…? But I am smiling.” He apparently gives off a cold aura that makes him seem unapproachable, and consequently, he doesn’t have many people close to him. According to him, this is because of Shizuo-he set a negative example, and thus Kasuka became the opposite of him.

That’s not to say he’s socially inept or anything like that, however. Emotionless behaviour and quietness aside, there isn’t actually anything wrong with what he says. He can keep up a conversation just fine-there’s the simply the matter of others not being able to tell if he honestly cares. In fact, he’s fairly polite, regardless of whom he’s speaking to. Ultimately, he’s also a rather nice person, despite his stoic attitude and seemingly icy air. He’s the kind of person who, while possibly about to die, (very likely honestly) claims that the most important thing he wishes he could do is stop the tears of his would-be murderer.

That being said, Kasuka can be rather quirky. Because of his deadpan nature and upbringing, nothing weirds him out-and therefore he has no qualms about doing anything weird either. A few anecdotes include him nearly cutting off his pinky with no fear after being ‘threatened’ to do so, and scaring a stalker into surrendering him/herself simply by remaining silent on the phone for 20 hours without hanging up. He’s also a strange combination of flashy and humble. He has a weakness for classy cars, has designer clothing, and has fancy furniture. On the other hand, he actually just wears whatever he has a personal fondness of, whether they’re expensive or cheap, hangs his laundry by his bedroom entrance in plain sight, and is perfectly willing to buy beef rice from convenient stores for dinner.

And for someone whom people say doesn’t seem to understand what others are thinking, Kasuka is surprisingly perceptive-or at least tries his best to be. He comments to Ruri that if he doesn’t understand a person, he’ll keep observing him/her until he does. However, despite that, he’s good at telling what a person is thinking, such as when he deduced that Ruri was planning to kill herself. At the same time though, he can be oblivious to certain things. The prime example would be when Ruri had him pinned to the bed-he believes that he was feeling was nervousness, not realizing it was actually attraction. As Ruri remarks, he’s a bit childish in that regard.

Overall, it’s hard to deny that Kasuka is abnormal. After all, normal people are definitely not as emotionless as he is, and it’s for this reason that one character calls him a “monster.” However, although he might not necessarily be aware of how odd his personality is, he does know what others say about him-and feels the same way. He claims that he doesn’t really know himself and that he isn’t a complete person, as he honestly doesn’t feel emotion. That’s why he became an actor, because he wanted to feel the same way that normal people do, through his roles. And it’s this desire of his that makes him a “monster”-that is, “a monster that wants to become a human.”

[Specialties/Abilities]

If it weren’t clear enough already, Kasuka is a very talented actor-it’s said that he’s flexible in his roles and that he’s never failed a part. Along with that, he’s a good singer and athlete. And seeing as how he managed to make 1.2 billion yen from investments, he’s likely pretty smart as well.

He also has an infinite number of hobbies, including but not limited to fishing, billiard, darts, horse riding, investments, collecting automobiles, going to the theater, going to the movies, painting, calligraphy, home carpentry, table magic, aikido, flying small planes, and flower arrangements. |D;

[Affection] Kasuka's... not really going to react. He'll probably politely decline if it gets too far, though.

[Fighting] Kasuka does know martial arts and is generally smart enough not to get himself killed, but when you get down to it, he's not much of a fighter compared to others.

[Other Permissions] Go for it! o/
[Other Facts]

His stage name, Hanejima Yuuhei, is actually an anagram of his real name-the "Hane" can be pronounced as "wa" and the "Yuu" as "Kasuka." Aka, "Wa-jima-Kasuka-hei." His given name, Kasuka, means “obscure,” ironically.

His birthday is February 22nd.
