Today's H-Burg Day Trip

Jan 02, 2007 17:34

This morning I dropped dad off at Physical Therapy then went to Barnes and Noble.

While looking around the DVDs I couldn't help but hear a conversation between a gentleman and the clerk. He was telling her how he sent his ex-wife a DVD of An Inconvenient Truth, but it wouldn't work at all. He continues to say that it turns out there are these zones and it wasn't the right one but he and his ex couldn’t find it and it just didn’t make any sense to them that there's even a difference. At this point I was totally listening in because I just wanted to see where he would go with the conversation. He mentioned about how he had heard he could play it on his laptop, but he couldn't figure out the software or anything. (Kind of clueless really).

At this point I chimed in asking if I could interrupt (Although I guess I was already interrupting at this point if I stopped them...). Loaded with a random DVD in hand I showed him the icon and explained the Regions, including Free (zero). I also wanted to point out that DVDs from Europe won't necessarily work in the United States and vice versa even if there wasn't a region code because of .. I think I just said resolution. Honestly I thought he should have known the difference between NTSC vs. PAL. /shrug. I was really trying to be simplistic as possible, not that he was dumb. He just had no idea. Since he DID mention a laptop, I figured that VLC would be the easiest bet for him.

Queue call to Dave for the URL, because I couldn't remember it... lol ( http://www.videolan.org )

Oh but the gentlemen doesn't have the intarweb at his disposal. But would it work if say a friend had it and downloaded it and put it on disc... ?? Yep that should work. I really hope he gets it figured out because he was so happy that I tried to help him. He seriously started hitting on me. Like if I was single and asking if I wanted a companion for when I'm getting up in my age. I was laughing too much to really hear it all. I didn't really do anything special.

Later while I was walking around looking at stuff and he was like "What a way to start the new year." And she said something about "yeah nice things happen..." I think I just kind of surprised them. XD I'm glad I made his day.

When I picked dad up from PT I told him I got a marriage proposal. He looked so shocked, and I got to laugh again.

From there we went to Circuit City. I was looking at bluetooth headsets and got called Sir by the Verizon clerk. He was embarrassed when I actually turned around, his 2 other coworkers laughed at him but I told him it was alright because it wasn't the first time this has happened. He was pretty flustered and just kept slipping up the rest of the time. Later, Dad joked that maybe I need a push up bra. Granted I didn’t wear one today but I wasn't going to say "HAAAAY! I HAVE BOOBIES, SEE?!?!?!" as dad also suggested.

The way to round out the day would be to flirt with a woman. I'd feel pretty complete for the day. And it's only after 5pm right now so anything could happen.
