It Carries On

Again

Close these windows.
Create artificial night.
Out there lies pain.
Once we walked fearlessly.
Now we creep cautiously.

Dr. Relief suggested white pills.
Take one each 6 hours for pain.
Increase dose as pain intensifies.
Don’t exceed more than 5 in a 24-hour period.

I can’t remember how many I swallowed.

Now, it’s all surreal.
I like black and white.
My dreams through Ilford 400-speed 35mm film.
Nervous hands hold .35-caliber anger.
Mind the repeater.

Pete and Repeat sat on a log …: REPEAT

Over and over again your voice haunts me.
I fade into your shades of gray … fade to black.
Then, degrees of wind chiming to white snow … innocence.

Tonight you’re guilty of nothing.

“Want to smoke another?”
Hell Yeah, I never turn that down.
“Good, Spark it up.”

And we do.
