Misunderstood
The ground glistens with God’s tears.
Maybe tonight God’s not crying at all.
It’s possible he’s washing away the sin of this year.
There’s more detergent needed to cleanse this soiled canvas.
Mother nature stopped joking about the way we’ve treated her.
She’s scorned, disrespected and misunderstood.
She refuses to remain ignored, so she releases
Her fury on thousands while effecting billions.
Watch as she displays her strength.
Her miracle reversed.
All the tumblers turned upside down.
The wine becomes water as she bleeds.
Pierced, she wails her sorrow.
We have no affect … can only witness devastation.
We will never shed enough tears to match
The suffering she has endured for thousands of years.
Tonight … I’ll try to understand
But fall centuries short.
As my nails dig into my chest
Though ribs … wounded flesh
Abused emotions
To a constant heartbeat
Monitored by confused cerebellum,
Science still mystifies.
I’d die for you tonight
But God’s not through with me.
Neither is Mother Nature.
Grant me salvation.
These things I ask
In HER name.
