I've been thinking about those nasty chain letters that are always floating around the internet and which, for some reason or another, people keep on reposting indefinately. I guess people are worried that these letters actually contain some sort of magical power, possibly even the ability to curse you. But the thing is, who starts off these chain letters, and more importantly, who has the power to imbue them with the unholy black magic which allows them to curse those who break the chain? I like to think that there is a powerful warlock somewhere who is huddled over his computer, starting off series after series of relationship and crush related chain letters.

At this point I've MADE an entire fourteen cents through INTEREST in my savings account...how much more will I earn by simply sitting around and lounging?

I started JG Ballard's the Drowned World today and feel very enthusiastic about it. This will be the first of his world disaster/science fiction novels which I will have read, and so far it is possibly one of the best books I've read by him. Crash is dim in my mind, due to having read it in high school, but I have a feeling that the sentiments and imagery in the Drowned World are more in line with my current aesthetic. Concrete Island, as I remember it, had perhaps the most awesome set up possible, but disappointed me slightly towards the end. The Atrocity Exhibition and Empire of the Sun were both amazing though, and the Drowned World so far might even trump those! I need to get a copy of Ballard's High Rise...but I never see it around. Why isn't it readily in print? Why aren't more of his novels in print, by the way? I had to pick this one up at a used book store.
