I had a lot of fun at the StampBug yesterday. The sale was unbelievable! There were 28 people lined up outside before the store opened, and in about the first 10 minutes that number jumped to over 60!! Definitely quite the experience. And the prices on things were amazing. At one point I stopped just to admire the two giant tables completely covered in rubber stamps and I remember telling Terri, "This must be what heaven looks like." Yes, I was a very happy kitty! When they do this kind of sale again in the fall, I'm definitely going to have a lot more money saved up.
Last night I watched Copying Beethoven and Children of Men. In retrospect, I probably should have watched them in reverse order, since I started with the uplifting film and then ended with the really heavy one. Still, I liked them both. Ed Harris makes a terrific Beethoven and I really liked Diane Kruger's acting. Plus, the movie was filled with Beethoven's music, and that's always a plus. The only thing is that there were a lot of time throughout the movie where the camera would get real jumpy and they'd be leaping from one image to another...kind of like the television was having a seizure. I guess they were trying to convey the way that Beethoven "heard" music - since he was deaf - but I didn't really like that, since it kind of gave me a headache.
I think I could talk about Children of Men for days. Everyone needs to see this movie. I think last night I must have written pages and pages in my real journal in response to some of the stuff this movie brings up. One of the most chilling scenes, I think, was when all of the soldiers stopped shooting to allow a couple of the characters to pass (I'm being vague cuz I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen this yet) and then the second they do, the shooting instantly starts back up again. It was so sad to see how everyone seemed so eager to kill one another. Yeah, I don't think I'm going to delve much further, because I don't want this to be a downer of a post. There are some interesting extras on the DVD that I'm going to try and watch before I have to return it.
