Diminishing Distain

Poison covers the light that lives inside of you
I don’t have to say it, you know it’s true
The blackness of your pride obscures your joy
A covering of darkness you employ
What makes you turn from true beauty?
Today your sting has poisoned me

Why, why, why do you opt to die?
It’s hurting me, can you see me cry?
The filth that abounds within your heart
To abolish it would be only the start
But for this beauty I see within
I will pray that God removes your sin

Well I tried to help, but you refused my care
Should I press on? Do I even dare?
I waste my time just trying to help you
You drain away my life, you know it’s true
But for this grace, I will persevere
And with the love of Christ still hold you dear

For Christ has changed my heart forever
Give up on you? I will not ever
So not because of any merit of mine
Nor because of your demeanor fine
But God pours out his graces ever
Making our friendship last forever
