So, for those of you that don't know, I finally did it. I placed in a fencing tournament this past Saturday.
It was the New England Championships with 13 different teams attending. After about 7 hours of fencing I finally ended up taking the bronze medal in 3rd place overall. I only lost to two other fencers during finals and was the only club fencer to make it to finals. All other finalists were from Varsity teams.
Overall that day, my fencing was amazing. I honestly don't think I've fenced better in my life. I beat members from Brandeis, MIT, UMASS, as well as many others. I beat some people that have repeated beat me for the past 4 years. It was truly amazing. I even beat one of the guys from UMASS that's really annoying on the strip and there were 3 great things about that bout.
1: I blocked his swoopy stop cut thing which he revels in taking.... he was upset.
2: I broke a blade on his chest with a point and line.... was even more upset and started arguing w/ the director that it wasn't established.
3: I made him scream and start arguing w/ the director for my last touch which was a point and line and a one light victory..... he was crying on the inside.
It was great though, I don't think I've seen Brian (my old sabre coach) happier at one time about watching me fence. When the last touch happened he literally jumped up and down and came and gave me a high five on the strip. It was great.
Then individuals. I fenced Igor from MIT first. I beat him 5-4 I believe. The last touch, I was proud of myself, I noticed he was attacking my head a lot, so I parried my head and reposted to get the final touch. I didn't think I could ever beat him. Absolutely amazing.
Then I fenced another guy from UMASS. He got sick of my point and line and mocked me with it. I then went and chased him down the strip and hit him on the head. I won that bout as well.
Then I also beat a guy from Brandeis twice. Once in individuals and once in finals. I've never beaten him before either.
Finally the finals. Absolutely amazing. I had the entire team cheering me on. It was everything I dreamed it would be. It was seriously everything I wanted my last individual tournament to be. I'm so happy about it. I fenced really well, but the two guys that beat me, they were having a little better of a day I suppose.
It's funny, once you've beaten people, they actually start talking to you. It's like you've earned their respect.
I like it :-)
Okay, enough from me. Later all!
P.S. Here's a pic of me and my medal :-)
