Get a roommate. Get a pet. The ticking noise gets stronger, the longer you spend alone.

Mohinder Suresh.

Oh. I'd started to get a headache from it, I think...that's really odd.

It's good to meet you, Mohinder Suresh.

It's from...the clock, supposedly. I don't know if you've heard anything about it, though frankly I think most of the ideas people have about that damn clock are based on fear or coincidence.

Just Mohinder is fine, if Wanda is also fine?

I haven't heard much, no. There are ideas about the clock?

Wanda's just fine.

That it may be counting down, supposedly, to the end of the universe. I find this explanation to be lacking in both evidence and in credibility.

Wanda, then. I wish you luck here, Wanda, and a safe return.

It sounds a little superstitious, and that means a lot coming from me.

Thank you. People return, then? Often?

My thoughts precisely.

The return home at times, unpredictably. Sometimes they come back. Sometimes, blessedly, they never do.

The ticking is peculiar, though. Don't you think so?

That's disturbing. They have no control over it?

Peculiar does not and never has meant the end of the world, however.

Unfortunately not, though it could be argued how much control we have ever, really, had over our lives. The best is not to let it preoccupy you. Keeping busy has helped me; jobs and the like.

No, the world would've ended many times over in many places were that the case. I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, promise.

That seems like a pretty good method to me. What sort of work do you do?

I work at the library, and teaching at the open university. Biology and genetics, and to a lesser degree philosophy.

Busy indeed. I didn't know there was a library. I'll have to check that out as soon as I can.

Varied. And some of the books bite.
