They'll have midnight Mass at the chapel. I'll be going, myself- might even be singing. I think it's a good time to slow down.

How've you been, Wanda?

I hope you do sing. I'd like to come to the Mass, I think.

Adjusting, to put it mildly. And you?

You're the second person to tell me that today. I think I will, then.

Adjusting? To the City? I know it's tough- but you'll come through it okay.

I'm...frustrated, that's probably the best word for it. But I'll be fine. It's the nature of the season sometimes, I think.

Thank you for that.

Why are you frustrated? If you don't mind telling me.

Sure.

Well- a lot of reasons, I guess. Most of them are kind of stupid. I don't know how great I'm doing at this "helping people out" thing- but I'm trying , right?

That's something, yes.

I think you and I find ourselves in similar positions, as it concerns the notion of redemption and helping other people.

Trying means a lot. Do you want to talk to me about it, or...?

Similar positions? What do you mean?

If you don't mind listening, sure. I've been trying to help people out, do good things, and- still, people stare at me like I'm some sort of monster. People I've never met. Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. I think that's the major thing that's bothering me right now. It makes me wonder if its just too late to try anything, and I don't really like thinking of that.

I've hurt people, too. But I'm trying to decide what to do now.

It's never too late. Why do you think they stare at you?

You have? Everyone hurts others- but I assume you mean something a little more serious than that, if it warrants a decision.

I'm not sure why. Maybe they see it in me. Maybe I don't know how to hide what I've become, anymore. It might come down to the fact that I wasn't scared enough.

Yes, much more serious, I'm afraid.

Sometimes people are afraid of individuals who can do what they can't. I don't know for sure. But you're doing this to help them--not to make them like you. Right?

Can I ask what happened? If it's personal, I understand.

I'm really not sur Of course, I want to help them. Especially during the last event, we had to do everything we could to spare people that infection.

I'm different from most other people. Sometimes I lose control of what I need to keep firmly in check.

You must have been very busy. I think...you may have to be patient, but again, I won't presume to know the exact details.

You're different? Is this an emotional control issue or more of a special power sort of thing?

I tried my best. And I think you might be right. Patience hasn't been one of my virtues lately, but I'm working on it.

The latter.

Sometimes it just helps to have a core of people who support you, even if the populace doesn't.

You have a power you lose control of sometimes? Maybe I could help with that. I have an ability that helps me figure out other people's powers, how they work, how to use them, how best to control them.

-then again, that might not be the best idea.

I'm still getting used to having anyone support me, much less a few people. It's not really something I've had in my life before.

Mine doesn't really work that way, I think, but I appreciate the suggestion, either way.

It makes sense that it would be frustrating, then. You're changing your entire life.
