Today is my little brother's 21st birthday. I can't believe he's that old. Granted, we're only three years apart, but I still often think of him as a little kid.
I wish I was at home to give him a big hug and wish him a good day, but I won't see him, unfortunately. It saddens me that we don't spend a lot of time together anymore. We both have our own lives - he lives in an apartment in Hamilton with my cousin and works full-time. I pretty much only see him now on holidays.
Growing up, we were pretty close. We did fight - but not like some siblings do. We did a lot of stuff together, and we did a lot of stuff with my cousins, because my family's always been really close. I remember that every Christmas, my mom would take out this big garbage bag full of Christmas-y stuffed animals and my brother and I would play a huge make believe game where they were all characters in a story we made up. We would put them in a laundry basket, which would be Santa's sleigh.
Anyway, I'm feeling nostalgic for childhood today. I thought I would share some pictures of us throughout the years:
This is April 1991, when we were in Disney World. I was five, and he was three. You have to love our outfits. Our mother loved to dress us in outfits - and I mean outfits - where the shirt, bottom, shoes, hat and accessories all matched.
This is at my dad's work Christmas party, probably around '92 or '93. My brother had these golden curls and a devilish smile. He also had a big birthmark on his cheek that he ended up getting removed when he was about 13. Kids made fun of him a lot for it, plus the doctors said it could have become cancerous when he was older.
I'm guessing this is in the mid-90's. Matching denim jackets - I'm so ashamed.
This is one of my favourite pictures. It's from Christmas one year. Look how excited he was to get Home Alone!
This is from Disney World in October of 1996 - I was eleven and he was eight. Oh, the outfits!
This is us in the port of Miami in August 2006 - just before our cruise departed.
Helmet diving in Mexico, August 2006.
And this is from this past Christmas - so just a few months ago.
Well, that was fun. Anyway, happy birthday, little brother! :)
