Secrets Of The Funko Minis Crate

Feb 16, 2017 17:19

On Sunday I found a fresh crate of Series 3 Funko Mystery minis. I was out on Sunday, not because it was right before we actually got enough snow to make it necessary to shovel my driveway twice, but because the local flea pit has doubled the number of screenings of the weekly English version of a movie. One showing on Sunday afternoon, one on Thursday evening, same movie. This week it's The Founder, the McDonald's restaurant story. The last two weeks it was horror: a multiple personality killer (Split) and a zombie apocalypse movie (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter). No thanks. The next one, Fifty Shades Darker. I'll pass.

So after the movie, which was good, it was just starting to snow hard. I was already in the retail district so I went on a short store hop. Walmart surprised me with the Golden Oaks Library, Pinkie in her chicken costume and the Funko crate. It was an expensive stop. My experience with these crates is that the choice figures are in the last two rows in the bottom and one of the rows in the top. So I got the middle row on the top and the four in the back on the bottom. These are for future pony holiday giveaways.

When I got home, I couldn't find my notes from when I opened the boxes from my Series 3 crate, so on Monday I went to YouTube. There I found four videos of people opening all the boxes in order in pristine Series 3 crates, plus videos where all the boxes had been jumbled and others where it was the Hot Topic version. What I saw was that 75% of the time the rows in the crates contained the same two figures from one box to the next. What also varied was which of a pair of figures was on the right and which was on the left. Here are the results as a bird's-eye view, with a, b, c and d indicating a different Series 3 crate.

Top layer:
Back row:
(a) Scootaloo (left) Applebloom (right)
(b) Luna (left) Nightmare Moon (right)
(c) Scootaloo (left) Applebloom (right)
(d) Scootaloo (left) Applebloom (right)

Middle row:
(a) Maud (left) Cheese (right)
(b) Shining Armor (left) Cadence (right)
(c) Maud (left) Cheese (right)
(d) Maud (left) Cheese (right)

Front Row:
(a) Queen Chrysalis (left) Nightmare Moon (right)
(b) Applebloom (left) Celestia (right)
(c) Nightmare Moon (left) Queen Chrysalis (right)
(d) Queen Chrysalis (left) Nightmare Moon (right)

Bottom layer:
Back row:
(a) Luna (left) Celestia (right)
(b) Spike (left) Sweetie Belle (right)
(c) Celestia (left) Luna (right)
(d) Celestia (left) Luna (right)

Middle row:
(a) Cadence (left) Shining Armor (right)
(b) Scootaloo (left) Queen Chrysalis (right)
(c) Cadence (left) Shining Armor(right)
(d) Cadence (left) Shining Armor(right)

Front Row:
(a) Spike (left) Sweetie Belle (right)
(b) Maud (left) Cheese (right)
(c) Spike (left) Sweetie Belle (right)
(d) Spike (left) Sweetie Belle (right)

On Monday I went back and scooped up the top front row. I knew exactly where I had put it in the crate on Sunday.

Last week or so I also finally opened all my, hopefully not juggled and recrated, Power Pony Funko Mystery Minis. The result (bird's eye view):

Top layer:
Back row:
Spike (left) Mane-iac (right)

Middle row:
Pinkie Pie -- crouched (left) Applejack -- scowling (right)

Front Row:
Rainbow Dash (left) Fluttershy on two legs (right)

Bottom layer:
Back row:
Rarity (left) Fluttershy enraged (right)

Middle row:
Twilight Sparkle (left) Pinkie Pie on three legs(right)

Front Row:
Applejack -- smiling (left) Hench-pony (right)

My results for the Series 2 crate is here.

Last night it snowed again, a real snowfall, something that needs shoveling. But I'm on vacation this week, I don't need to go anywhere. I'll shovel out my drive tomorrow.
