The third Sunday of June, is it..? [ There's a little sigh, almost over the top melancholic. ] Too bad, that means some of us are missing out on a festival, right? It truly is a shame to not be able to celebrate Wataganashi this year..

[ There's a chuckle, and it's a bit eerie - like someone who's telling a ghost story. ]But I guess that might be ( Read more... )

The fae set their own schedules when it comes to festivals, though it would not prevent you from observing your own form home, should you choose to do so.

[ Though that isn't to say he isn't somewhat bothered by what she was implying. ] Precisely what is this "Wataganashi" you speak of? [ Thanks to the training he had in dealing with Elevens the Japanese, his pronunciation is not embarrassingly bad; just incredibly stiff. ]

It's a festival back home where people drift cotton down the river. And of course there are the kind of game booths and all one migt find at a festival as well. But..

[ She pauses for a slight moment. ] Unfortunately a terrible sort of curse has also started to combine itself with the event each year for the past few years.

[ Ordinarily, Guilford would scoff at such superstitions, but this place has softened his skepticism to some degree. ] Precisely what manner of curse?

Each year someone from the village is found dead. The same night another person entirely disappears without leaving a body.. they call it being demoned away.

[ She doesn't even really sound disturbed as she's telling about it - actually, she sounds rather interested, perhaps even slightly amused. ]

That's Oyashiro-sama's curse.

[ Of course people disappear without leaving a body. That's why it's called disappearing. His expression takes on a more serious edge, diving for the more logical justification for those events. ] A superstitious cover for what could easily be a serious of serial murders and kidnappings.

[ A giggle. ]

That's right, isn't it..? It could just be a murder string. It's not unthinkable.. yet the villagers prefer to believe in the curse that is eliminating everyone who is against the village.

They are only deluding themselves into believing such a thing in order to cover up for the inadequacy of whatever police force has failed to apprehend their culprit. The people would rather believe that some mysterious force is responsible rather than consider that the criminal might be among them. [ Skeptical? Guilford? Never. ]

[ It's oaky, he's even actually right. There were no demons at all into play for the annual curse, but it's not like Takano would just say that. ]

It's a bit strange though.. They haven't been able to capture the criminal or criminals for four years in a row now back home. It only strenghtens the belief that it's Oyashiro-sama, the village's god, committing these murders himself.

Hm. I suppose I could sit here and speculate on that all day, but it would hardly be productive. Unless this "god" were brought here along with us, there is no danger in that event repeating itself, and the Watch is ever-vigilant toward denizens creating conflict amongst one another. [ In other words, some copycat had best be careful if they try such a thing. ]

Oh, don't worry, I'm not too worried about an event like that happening here.. I just thought I'd give out a slight warning to people just in case. It's better to be safe than sorry after all, don't you think..?

Provided no one spreads fear and panic. [ Not exactly accusatory, but her initial recording did not sound like a warning, and Guilford does not like these sorts of hypothetical situations. ]

[ There's a slight pause - Guilford is really right, it wasn't as much of a warning as much as she just likes scaring people - but then she laughs. ]

I understand.. I apologize if it came across that way, hee hee.

[ A hum of agreement. ] Very well. Please be mindful of that in the future. [ See? He said "please". ]
