Summary - a missing scene between Rachel and Sandy from 'The Homecoming' 1x11

A/N : Why did Rachel disappear after Thanksgiving? This is my version.

“You don’t want to deal with what’s going on between us.” Rachel started with a knowing tone in her voice.

“There is nothing going on between us. You know that. We’re coworkers. We’re friends. That’s it.” Sandy sighed. He did not know what it was going to take to get this woman to understand.

“I don’t think that’s it.” She smirked while sipping on her wine.

“Rachel.” Sandy stopped working on the corn, giving Rachel his full attention. “Do you see that woman in there?” He pointed toward the kitchen window.

“The one fighting with your son over cauliflower?”

“Yeah.” He chuckled. “She’s the one I love; I can’t live without her. She has my heart and I would never imagine doing anything to hurt her.” He sighed again. “I don’t want your feelings to be hurt or anything but there’s nothing more to us than coworkers and friends.” He shrugged as he walked away with the corn.

Rachel was left to think by the grill. She knew that she would not be able to give up that easily. It was not until after an hour of small talk with Jimmy Cooper, when she went on a search for a bathroom, that Sandy’s words finally sink in.

Upon approaching the bathroom, she could hear a woman giggling. Rachel looked around, searching for the origin of the sound.

“Sandy!” She heard followed by more hushed laughter. Finally, Rachel realized the sounds were coming from the bathroom.

“Don’t you have a turkey to baste?” She heard Kirsten ask.

“I’m trying to. You’ve got the turkey and I’ve got the baster.”

Kirsten laugh loudly. “Oh, Sandy! How romantic.” Rachel knew she should walk away but just coud not bring herself to do it.

Kirsten seemed to be getting more breathless. “Sandy, we have guests.”

“They are entertained.”

“That may be true but…” Rachel heard the unmistakable sound of kissing. “Mm. Not right now, Sandy.”

“Later?” He pleaded.

“I promise.”

Rachel heard the door knob rattle and quickly rejoined Jimmy in the living room. She watched them smiling and touching in the kitchen.

“Are they always like that?”

Jimmy followed her eyes. He noticed the way Sandy was looking and smiling at Kirsten. He knew that look.

“Pretty much,” Jimmy answered.

Despite seeing and hearing them, Rachel still had some hope left. But when she watched the way Sandy put up with his father-in-law for the sake of Kirsten and the way he took care of her. She finally understood that he was telling the truth and she could never have him.
