Here is the photo blog I promised.
Friday morning I woke up early and went to KB's. We did some last minute shopping and then off to the airport. We saw Gabby + Hannah there and said goodbyes and then checked in where we found out that our flight was actually 12:50pm NOT 11:25am. Not cool, Jamool. Then we went through the security and met Sam + Simone and sat with them for a while. Their flight was boarding so they left and Tania and Kim arrived and we finally hung out with them and found out we were all on the same plane.
Then we boarded for our flight and arrived in Brisbane mid afternoon. Ian came and picked us up from the airport and we drove in the most insane traffic everrrr.
Ian was cruising along.
So that was all fine.
Until Ian decided he wanted to be mean.
And things got scary.
Ian took KB and I to the Hilton and we booked in.
The view of the city from our room.
Then I drove Tania, Kim, Ian and myself to the Gold Coast Friday night.
We arrived at the local hotel and Gerling + Starky were playing. I only got photos of Gerling though. During their performance, Tania and I called out that we were all the way from Townsville, so Burke Reid (Bass + Guitars + Vocals) called out that the next song, "WHO'S YA DADDY?" was dedicated to us!! :O:O
Saturday was lots of shopping... Altogether I bought ~$300 worth of MAC make up, a Ralph perfume, new shoes, heaps of cds from JB Hifi and several presents. Then Sam + Simone shouted Kb and I to a lunch at this nice place in the mall for my birthday.
AND THEN...!!!1.1.1111!!!!!..
...COLDPLAY! (P.S. Sorry images are poor quality)
They are the most amazing performers. We were so fortunate to be about 10-15 metres away from the stage with gold tickets. The whole concert was amazing. Youth Group played wonderfully, but as cameras were illegal, I didn't want to risk it at that time. I did however manage to get "Forever Young" on my phone video which is sweet and I'll try link that up later on.
There was about an hour's wait between Youth Group and Coldplay but when the lights went dark everyone went insane. The crowd was massive, double the size of the Kylie Minogue concert I went to in year 10. Chris Martin has the greatest presence on stage; he's the best dancer and performer I've ever seen. He didn't stop once, and Jon, Guy and Will all played wonderfully as well. During "Yellow" these HUGE yellow balloons filled with gold glitter fell from the ceiling. Each one was about 1.5m in diameter and there were about 25 of them. They all floated around the crowd and eventually burst and gold glitter filled the air. I have it on video also. One of the balloons wouldn't burst so Chris kept singing the last note until it did.
They played every great song of theirs including 'Don't Panic' and 'Yellow' from Parachutes. Then from Rush of blood to the head, they played (from memory) 'Politik', 'God put a smile upon your face', 'The Scientist', and 'Clocks'. From X & Y, they opened with 'Square One', 'What If', 'White Shadows', 'Talk', 'X & Y', 'Speed of Sound', 'A Message', 'Kingdom Come' which then changed into a Johnny Cash rendition.
Then of course came the encore and they finished with 'Trouble', 'In My Place', and 'Fix You'.
I wish that they had performed 'Rush of blood to the head', 'Swallowed in the sea', or 'Green Eyes'.... but it was so freaking awesome that there are no complaints here. At the end of the concert I had tears of joy and it was so surreal.
Only bad part was freaky man girating against me and constantly touching me. Eww. Way to almost ruin the experience fuckhead.
Oh! And when they sang Fix you, it was exactly like the film clip. He swung the lantern that hung in the middle of the stage and it spun around and around. It was so magical.
Then we caught the train back and it was packed. Almost as bad as Sydney on New Year's Eve... which was horrible. These drunk footy guys came on and were singing "Lean on me", "Sing low, sweet chariot", etc. But it was hilarious. And then home on Sunday.
