She had intented to simply say goodbye and be on her way, but it came out before she was even aware she was saying it.
"Do you ever see Shelby?" She tried for casual, but was sure she missed it by a mile.
"Yeah," he said into his latte. His tone nothing but casual. "We had lunch last week actually."
Quinn nodded absently. "How is she?" Her chin jutted out, a defense mechanism that to a stranger would look more like defiance. Jesse set his latte down and leveled his gaze on her. It lacked the mischievous glint she was accustom to and left Quinn feeling discombobulated.
"She's good." The corners of his mouth turned up in a slight smile. "She's walking now. She's...she's beautiful."
Quinn's eyes softened as they filled with moisture. She quickly looked away, busying her hands with the task of gathering her things.
"It was good seeing you Jesse," she said as she stood and walked towards the coffee house exit.
"You too Quinn."
