In-Game Character Information
Name: Lady/Mary
Series: Devil May Cry
Age: 16
Personality:
From an outsider's prospective, Lady can honestly be perceived as a bitch. She doesn't strive to make friends or enemies, and doesn't seem to care what others think of her. She is seemingly very proud, is likely not the person not to ask for help, unless in a situation of a last resort or desperation. She's confident in her various skills, especially around her age, knowing that she can hold her own quite well, and can count on always never being the damsel in distress. Matter of fact, she might even fixate on that, but that is another thing altogether with her personality. Conflict is something Lady isn't seemingly afraid of, a rough and tumble girl, who you can always count to bounce back from any situation, despite that.
From the route of her pride, Lady is always sure that she is right and never wrong, that what she does is right and truthful. Sometimes Lady can even be a bit of a hypocrite, judgmental to a fault, especially when it comes to people. She almost never trusts anyone, expecting the worst of them at points. Above all, Lady carries almost a single-minded view of the inhuman -- though she isn't quick to judge them now, much thanks to Dante, but holds them from a different standard. Despite holding bitter anger and resentment, typically Lady is a calm, cynical, focused individual, who is likely too serious for her own good at times. But she is never one you would like to upset or anger, carrying a vicious temper, stemming from her desire to bottle most emotions, or never truly elaborates on what sets her off.
She's also bright. Very mature for her age, she takes on responsibilities she knows she can't handle at her age. Nor does Lady really care. Lady is more observant than she lets on, collecting information, watching, and waiting. Most of the times, Lady is not one to jump in head first, will calmly approach something, but also carrying the idea that, yes, she can handle it, no matter what. And is sometimes beyond the point of apathy. You will never see Lady blindly charge off at something, unless it's deeply personal to her. Strong and bold are words that pretty much nail her. Also, Lady is horribly stubborn -- it's hard to even to get her to back down once she sets her mind on things. It will take a literal force to stop her, and that's apparent in her pride. She will not have her pride bruised.
Behind her rough and abrasive exterior, Lady lets on a softer side than she shows, she knows she cares more than she ought to. Where she might scold or bitch at others for being stupid, it's to show that she cares. She's obsessed with keeping her personal image of being the big, badass bitch, but ever so often, she fails. She's fiercely loyal, and secretly possessive of a small number who really do mean a lot to her. And even then, Lady can act maternal. This is, of course, something she wants to hide -- Lady does not want to be seen as vulnerable or helpless, by any means. You'll have a loyal friend in Lady, who wouldn't be afraid to seriously stick up, or even go far as kicking someone's ass for you. Because of how her mother protected her to her death, Lady chooses to emulate her, wanting to do just that for a dear friend. This doesn't really come up as a discussion.
This is something she views she needs to keep up, personally acting the way she does to get negativity and honestly doesn't care. There's more to it than that, one of Lady's greater fears is becoming attached to someone again, and losing them. Betrayal, above all, is not only something she fears, but something she loathes in people, thus carrying the mistrusting mentality she has. Social interactions with others is something Lady isn't comfortable with and avoids. Most times, she thinks people are road blocks, will sometimes try and avoid a conversation, or give a big brush off. Because of that, Lady is difficult to befriend and she chooses it that way.
Arkham's betrayal has done that enough to her. Work and nothing but work revolve around Lady, you'll rarely see her enjoy herself at times, unlike normal teens of her age. The deeper route of all of this, naturally, is the death of her mother and her father's obsession with demons and to become one. Lady has spent a good majority of her life walking a path against her father, and how has she worked hard to achieve her revenge. When it comes down to it, Lady does carry a bit of self-loathing, will always carry some guilt of how she could not save her parents. However, let it be known while Lady has a strong martyr complex and will to protect others, she is not, by any means, suicidal, despite her career choice. If she dies in the line of fire? That's fine, at least the world won't have to worry about her blood. Devoted to protecting humanity from demons or the lure for power, she'll do anything to just ensure that.
Behind all of this? Lies a very pure-hearted girl, who simply wants to protect and carry her mother's good will in her actions, who Lady views as her only family, despite a love and hate factor for her father. Even if she's always serious, every so often, Lady will reach the level of acting compassionate, reassuring, always supportive, and even not afraid to tease. Just a little. Insecurities and lingering trauma from her past aside, you'll never be able to keep her down. And despite misgivings, she's generally a good person.
Background: Lady was originally known as Mary Arkham, born to her mother, Kalina Ann Arkham, a half-German and half-Bulgarian woman, and to her father, Joachim Arkham, a German-American. Both themselves were purebloods in their own rights, coming from family lines that tied back to magic, itself. Because of the age gap between his wife and himself, this married couple took a while to have a child of their own. When their daughter was born, they gave her the name "Mary", a nod to Kalina Ann's Catholic heritage, from the Virgin Mary, who in the biblical story was a wished child to her own parents, seemingly fitting in with their own names. Because she was an only child, they spoiled her and kept her close, so majority of Mary's young life before school was with her parents. Mostly in part, Mary grew to be a very quiet, introverted girl.
When she reached the age of eleven and because of her joint citizenship to England and America, Mary was offered school to both one in America and Hogwarts -- her parents favored the latter, having been there, themselves. So when Mary was sent off, she suffered some anxiety from parting from her mother. Upon being sorted, the hat was stuck between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Having both of her parents in both houses, ultimately, Mary left that choice to the hat -- so it stuck her in Slytherin, because of her cunning, resourceful, and ambitious nature. Or because Mary had a bad temper, take your pick. So she learned to be a little more open, gain a few friends, mostly in her own house, but adjusted nicely. Every so often, she'd get into trouble for her temper, and Kalina Ann would send howlers to her daughter or eventually ground her for the summer. All and all, her parents were pleased to know she had friends, Kalina Ann in particular more welcoming than her husband to her child's friends.
But when Mary turned fifteen, her small family took a small turn for the worse. Her husband became more reclusive, cold, and distan than normal, would shut himself off from his family. Mary didn't approve of this and showed her disgust and disappointment by acting out. Her perfect attendence slightly went downhill as Kalina Ann wrote back how her father grew distant. Unknownst to them, he became obsessed with the occult, dark arts, and demonology. Obsessed with a demon called "Sparda", an old and rare legend from eons ago. Finally, when Mary arrived back, now sixteen in June, she was able to see her mother. This would be the last year she'd have her mother, unfortunately. Stumbling upon an argument, she witnessed the death of her mother by her father. He had brutally killed her as a sacrifice to gain power and become a demon, himself. Mary didn't stay long... She fled.
She immediately was picked up by her mother's older sister, and was sent there. For the past summer, where Mary would keep in touch with her friends, she dropped communication in an odd way. She's spent the summer taking the death of her mother rather hard, and hasn't explained how her mother died, only to her aunt. Her aunt revealed to Mary her mother and herself were once demon hunters, and that the collection of weaponry of guns were from Kalina Ann's former job, something Mary was taught by her mother in an early age. Since then, Mary has vowed to follow her mother's path. She's vowed to kill her father, in part of it being revenge, but also in part because Mary largely considers that to be a part of her duty as a daughter. She resists everything her father was, sadly, and no longer carries the same burning Slytherin pride, due to her father being in the house. She has now revoked her birth name, and has chosen the nickname "Lady", a name given off-handedly to her as she refused to give her own name. "Whatever, lady".
Her aunt has given her a task, you could say -- "finish this year, and see if you want to return to school afterwards. As soon as you're seventeen, you're an adult in the wizarding world."
Blood: Canonically, Lady is the descendant of a priestess who helped seal Hell with Sparda. With an AU background, Lady was raised in this honor. Since her father obviously knows occult, theology, and demons, he's likely to know some kind of magic. Because of this, I feel that she'd be a pureblood because magic comes from both of her parents.
Preferred House: Slytherin
Why you think they belong in this house? She honestly fits both qualities of Gryffindor and Slytherin. She's both brave, courageous, and fearless, however she doesn't carry the quality of chilvary. When push comes to shove, Lady can and will look out on her own; for lack of better words, she's so selfless she can be selfish. Lady is, also, a cunning, ambitious, resourceful, and practical girl. She's got a martyr streak in some cases and her personal vow to stay with her family honor clash with what Gryffindor should be. Yet Lady is shown in the anime and in game that she's not afraid to use her resourceful nature and coerce others to help do her bidding. She clearly shares the qualities of her father in that degree. So that's why I choose this, because of her practical, secretive, and ambitious nature, that is at odds with her pure heart. Long story short, despite her good wishes, she's a bitch.
School Year: Sixth
Quidditch Position: No, thanks ;_;
Would you like the character to possibly get a higher position? Nope!

... Right.
I'm tired. Oh, god, I'm so tired. You know, staying up late and getting only four hours of sleep... not too smart. Why the hell do I keep doing it? I don't know.
This year is going to suck. Um... hey, guys? I'm really sorry if I dropped off the face of the earth this sumer, a lot happen.
Speaking of, if anyone needs to chew me out of that... yeah. I'm all ears, I should explain myself.

The second to last year.
One more year. One more year until she could legally be out on her own. It wasn't as if she hated her aunt, no. As a matter of fact, she adored and respected her for taking her into her house, with no cousins to speak of. That hadn't changed, at least, Mary was still a normal child.
Yet it took a lot to motivate her to returning to any sort of extra school work during the summer break. The track back to England wouldn't be any less easier, Mary thought. Yet counting down to August, her trunk was saddled up, mostly done by her mother. Idly, her fingers tapped on the desk, where Mary had her head resting calmly in her arms. She was staring intently at the wall, not the paper before her.
Breaking this down to friends... how could that be easy?
Fate was so cruel. She was hoping and counting down the day her mother could see her leave school, a normal, happy family...
Then Mary's thoughts would sour, causing her to push away from the table with anger, and storming away to the window.
I'll kill him... I swear I will. I'll make him regret touching any of that magic.
Along with anything demonic along the way. But thank God for her aunt, who was lightly aiding her cause... probably because she never approved of her father. She wouldn't let Mary go until she was out of school, however, or at least seventeen. Oh, yes, that's right... that was the ultimatium: If you finish your sixth year, you can decide what you want to do with yourself... just learn anything you can to defend yourself.
That was it. But that was- no, it was too late. The heaviness overcame her eyes, and eventually, with a small sigh, the candle was out, and the girl crawled back on her bed, with the same fire still burning in her heart.
