[He waits her out, like he did that night, except this time he doesn't let her go because there are no cues to tell him the fight is over, there are no cues to say it's safe to let her go. Because, here.. there is no place for her to go and he knows she needs him as much as he needs her.

There are tears threatening to spill from his eyes as he loos at her, his fingers combing gently through her hair. He can't leave her, not when...that means she'll be alone and so will he when he gets back home.

He can't not promise her, because he knows how much it means to her to have a reason to hope. Even if it's for him and nothing else.]

If we find a way... [It breaks him to say it.] If we find a way...I'll go, with or without you.

[He pulls her in close, holding her tight against him, resting his cheek against her head. Hiding. Hiding the tears, because he knows that even if they do find a way home he won't go. And he hates that he lied to her. He HATES it. and maybe she'll hate him for it, but in the end staying is better for both of them, because they're nothing without the other one.]

[It's a lie. She knows it is, because she knows him. And she can't hold it against him, not with all the lies, all the secrets, all the inabilities that her broken soul has provided. He's done nothing but been there for her for the last four years and what... what has she done? Nothing. Nothing to deserve this loyalty. And because she doesn't think she deserves it, she likes to think she doesn't want it at all.

She lets him hold her, because she doesn't know what else to do.]

There's... there's places to stay here. We need to find you one.

[He's sure that she knows he's lying. But how can she expect him to leave her alone and NOT be there for her. He knows she doesn't believe it, but she's been there for him as much as he's been there for her, in different ways.]

We can do that. As soon as you think you're ready to go.

[He won't push. As much as he'd like to stay where she is, he's not going to push. He can be happy to be close. Close enough to be there if she needs him. That will be enough for him. For now.]

[She doesn't want to be ready. All she wants is to crawl up into his arms and stay there forever. She's the cop; she's the one who's supposed to protect, to serve. But she's starting to realize maybe even the protectors need to be protected sometimes. And there's only two places in the world that make her feel safe; the bullpen at the 12th, and in Castle's arms.

She forces herself to back away, but she looks up at him, putting her hand on his cheek and staring into his eyes.]

I really don't like the fact you're here, Castle. But maybe... maybe there's a reason for it.
