(019) Nineteenth Report [>>Audio -> Private video]

Looks like we can rest easy again. Relatively speaking. [There's a slight heaviness to Jill's voice -- fatigue, most likely, that she's been staving off.] I hope everyone made it through all right.

[A pause, and then her tone turns thoughtful.] In these kinds of invasions, I started off thinking we literally had to kill every last thing to clear them out. But by now, it's looking like most of these things are on a time limit -- three days, a week, and then they all just... disappear as suddenly as they arrived. Considering how many dinosaurs were running around, it was hard to tell if we were even making a significant dent in their numbers.

Has anyone noticed a pattern so far? It could even be both -- kill enough by a certain time and we'll catch a break. [A brief exhale, a shift of movement before her voice drops in volume a bit] But I'm probably grasping for logic here. [A pointless endeavor, that tone says, considering where they all are.]

[Jill's seated on the edge of her bed, legs crossed and hair pulled up a little higher than usual. She's wearing only a towel, the reason why made obvious by the thin streams of blood running down her left shoulder. Her attention's entirely on the rag she has pressed against the wound there -- hidden at the moment, but there's some ugly, purple bruising on the skin around it, and the stains on the rag say it's being rather stubborn about clotting the blood already.

For a moment it seems like she's unaware of the tablet's recording -- but then she suddenly and calmly looks straight over at it, and

you see this look, John

it is a completely stone-faced look. Not an I-told-you-so expression, although it could be used as the precursor to that one -- no, this is a different look.

A look that says something like I should do everyone a service and kick your ass.

Or maybe you're imagining that underlying hostility. Maybe it's really a look saying oh, look, what a funny coincidence that's not really funny funny but definitely worth noticing for future reference.

Either way, Jill doesn't say a thing. She just looks.

And with the way she's staring, there's really no way you can mistake that Look for being directed at anyone but you.

And only you.]
