In the background, Marian's voice can be heard, muffled at first but coming closer.]

...seen that scroll, love? I swear the cats have started hoarding.

[There's a pause, then a chuff of laughter. The paw retreats again,

Dogs can be trained. Besides, I'd imagine the pointy bits would make these little beasts unpalatable.
