She seems not to notice, however, turning back to one of the several books laid out in front of her, doubtless to verify something

There has to be at least one programmer around keeping this network up and running. I may be old, but I'm not stuck in the past. Just look for the guy with the pocket protectors who looks severely out o place beyond the safety of his parents' basement.
