Not even her beloved architecture books could distract her from this. Not anymore, anyway. If she paused to be entirely honest with herself, this had been building up for a long time, and she’d just been hiding it really well-like she was supposed to. She couldn’t break down because if she did, then it meant the world was ending.
Too late to save it now.
Even if she was rather proud of her hiding place-tucked into a shadowy corner of the library, tablet abandoned next to open books in Greek on the desk she’s been sitting at moments before-she kept her sobs as silent as possible. The building was huge, of course, bigger than it should have been, so anyone stumbling across her was unlikely, but it was still a public place. She didn’t want to embarrass herself, after all. As if she wasn’t there already.
Nothing about this place was fair.
