One of the main reasons that Voodoo had so readily agreed to meet Sephiroth at the library was to keep him from doing another week long stint there without sleep or food. The Underworld itself did a good enough job with depriving them of sleep, he didn't need his own obsessions working against him. That was one of the many ways that he reminded her of Hadrian, if she left him to his own devices he'd let his obsessions and narrow focus over take him and he'd never escape from it. Sephiroth was like that, which wasn't necessarily a good thing ( ... )

He'd only arrived a few moments before her, which he had anticipated. It wasn't the first time Sephiroth had noticed it, but it was the first time he'd really allowed himself to examine it. Priscilla and he were, in many ways, a study of opposites. Where he was always stern militant, she was casual and relaxed. Where he was serious and methodical, she was at times jovial and gentle. No one could ever accuse Priscilla of being cold-hearted or ego-centric, but he'd been labeled as such most of his life. She was caring, selfless, and dedicated to her friends and loved ones. Sephiroth had always been distant, detached, cold.He cared for her for all these things, and others he couldn't really name, and it disturbed him. How could someone mean something to you when you couldn't even quantify why? It didn't make any sense, and that thought disturbed him more than anything else. All these feelings he couldn't comprehend, when he was so often in control of his thoughts ( ... )

It was strange to see Sephiroth of all people smiling, it looked so foreign on his features, but also refreshing; it was nice to see him looking almost relaxed. He was usually so tense and so detached from everything, as if he'd built up walls that he wasn't even aware of. Seeing him smile was a rare treat. She returned the smile.

"How are you doing?"

"As well as could be expected, given the situation." He was trapped in a place he couldn't control and constantly given situations he had no influence over. He couldn't conceive of a worse place to be trapped, all things considered, but he also couldn't ask for much better company.

"And you?"

"The situation never really changes here though, so I guess that's pretty good." Although that wasn't entirely true, things changed here and it was always out of their control, out of their reach. Things changed and there was nothing they could ever really do about them.

"I'm ...fine. Still kinda tired." More than just kind of, but she didn't want to worry him or admit that.

His brows lowered slightly in concern. "If you're tired, perhaps now is a bad time." As disappointing as the prospect was to cancel their outing, he cared more for her than to force her to over-exert herself. "As much as I would appreciate your assistance, I believe I will be fine."

For a moment she was a bit surprised by his statement, she hadn't expected him to be concerned about her in such an open way. It was the small changes like that in him that made her smile.

"Uh, it's okay, I'm fine." She really didn't want to go back to her place to try to sleep, especially not alone. These were the moments when she really missed Hadrian the most, when she wanted someone to keep her safe.

"Besides, someone has to make sure you don't become a library shut-in, right?"

He didn't protest further, knowing she preferred to remain strong, even if she was working on low energy reserves. He was the same in such situations. After a moment, he nodded and turned toward the library entrance. He couldn't deny a selfish part of him was glad she'd decided to stay.

But he didn't exactly understand why he was glad. "Then, I suppose we should begin."

She followed him, standing by his side rather than behind him, as they entered the library. A part of her was very grateful that he'd stopped protesting, she didn't want to just give in to everything that was going on here. If she found something to do, something to occupy her time, then she actually felt better.

"Is there anything specific you're looking for?"

"I've been attempting to narrow my search, but I'm currently at a loss." He opened the door and held it for her. "I want to gather information on security systems."

"Maybe we can get the library to help us out." She chuckled as she walked in. "It's supposed to be able to sense what you need and actually bring it in."

"It seems to fall short when you aren't certain what you need." It's why he'd been known to spend countless hours there in the past. "But perhaps we will make a good team."

She frowned. "I wonder why that is, that it actually can bring you to things you're thinking of. What would the purpose of that be?" Her frown turned into a slight smirk. "Maybe so."

It was a good question, and one he's pondered on more than one occasion himself. His solution was as good an answer as any. "Aside from information on this place, there seems to be no limit to the knowledge contains within. Perhaps it's...an archival system."

"Why would they want to help us like that though? Or why give us access to this at all?" It just seemed weird and like it was trying to drive them crazy. Mybe that was the point, they were giving them access to information that didn't help them with anything.

"Perhaps to make us comfortable." It was a stretch, but it was the only explanation he could come up with. "The one who was here before, Persephone. She did not seem to be a part of this war of theirs."
