It was not that she had not known the possibility of death was high in the underworld. She was not as ignorant as many she shared her new home with. No, Misaki knew what the problem was, that death had always been an abstract in her mind. Death had happened before many arrived here, death claimed some of her friends before she had arrived, and she had come close to her own death so many times before. It was the act of dying that had scared her into her current state.

Misaki had awoken on the couch in her office, memories of herself-yet-not-herself fresh in her mind. Her hands had risen to her throat, verifying that yes the apple chunk was still there, and she had pushed herself up enough to bring her own fists up towards her stomach, using the force to dislodge the apple. Her body felt cold as she hurried home to change, letting Miya fill her in on Minato’s arrival upon her death, and hurriedly grabbing the Camera Obscura.

That was how she had found her way to the Forest, her one place of comfort. It was slightly saddening to think that her safe place was one filled with spirits, poltergeists, and violent creatures but that was the truth of it. She did not stray far in before she encountered her first poltergeist, one which she scared away with a few exorcised shots of the Camera. Her feet stumbled as she made her way to her normal tree, catching herself just in time to allow a stumble before sitting down upon the roots. She closed her eyes and breathed evenly, the Camera Obscura and her bag falling to her side as the voyage into meditation happened.

Misaki, the familiar voice called out to her and she ignored it. No, Marie was dead and not down here.

Mi-chan, Another familiar voice. Tomie? She took a moment to remind herself how Tomie had died before brushing it away.

Misaki, a soft caress brushing her cheek, a hand resting in her hair. Madoka. No. Too much. A barrage of memories rose up and she felt her mind opening, her emotions changing even as that foreign, ethereal hand intruded.

Anger. Hatred. Betrayal. The hand continued on, changing things, bringing memories to the forefront, pushing in emotions not her own.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” There was a scream that caused the creature to fall back and it took moments before Misaki realized that it was her voice. She quickly raised the Camera Obscura, her grip on her powers loose and too much as she took a picture. Much too much. She blinked at the explosion of light and stumbled back, momentary blinded and staring yet not staring upwards as she shouted. “JUST LEAVE ME ALONE.”
